his mechanic, Dave, is a good man, so the cars sold at Mack's place have had a good looking-over. Just try them out carefully before deciding to buy. As always, you get what you pay for. Because his main income is from real estate rentals, Mack isn't going to negotiate very much on his car prices -- he can afford to wait for the price he is asking. The prices seem to be quite fair.

I would have it checked out no matter where you go but with him my mom bought a car there and she likes it but it has had some problems but that is anywhere you go.

he "failed" to mention a problem or two - and then rushed out of town this weekend so right now we are researching the laws in VA about used car sales and "as is" condition. Seems if it couldn't pass state inspection he would have to do something about it.

you get what you pay for but certain things are expected.

i thought about asking him about rental properties but don't think that will be on my agenda now. i can imagine how he screws over his tenants.

he should be a man of his word though and stop screwing people over.

There are Lemon laws that are upheld for new and used cars. I don't remember what the time frame is, so I wouldn't sit on it too long.

If he sold the car as is with no warranty, you don't have a leg to stand on. It is up to the buyer to have a used vehicle checked out BEFORE they buy it. Thus the saying caveat emptor which is latin for let the buyer beware.

If your smart you wouldn't he's a compelete prick. Don't waste your time or money. He puts an eviction notice on my door once a week cause i owe 20 dollars on a deposit. If you get a car from him i suggest you have every bit of the money down

Why would anyone thats in the rental biz require you to pay on time each month?

Don't buy from Mac Payne. Go to either Mint motors or Quicks auto service in Bluefield. Trust me on this. We bought a van from Quicks a few years ago. 2000 model. He made sure everything was perfect. New tires, brakes, fluids, and super clean. Still runs like a dream, and we got it for a couple thousand. Mac Payne is a rip off artist.

Mack Payne offers good value for the money. If you don't have much money and need a car, you get what you pay for no matter where you deal.

Regarding the rentals: To a businessman who must file accurate tax returns regularly, that $20 can't be carried on the books and can't be written off as a gift to the tenant. He has worked with many people who need a place to live immediately, and has trusted them to make good on their payments. Too many of them take advantage of him.

Again, if you can afford to pay more rent, there are classier places than his on the market.

You want to buy a car on the cheap, or pay rent below the local market, you get what you pay for.

i agree that you get what you pay for, but shouldn't that mean you know what you're getting. i mean if there's something wrong with the vehicle or if he requires certain things with his rental properties shouldn't he tell them these things upfront to the buyer/renter? just because you're getting a "good" deal or a cheap price doesn't mean you should be lied to or led on by the seller.

Again according to law, it is the BUYER'S responsibility to check out the vehicle BEFORE buying. This has been the ruling principle of law in the US since 1817.

It's too bad that the OP has a problem with the car. Mack Payne makes very clear that he sells as is. Most are happy with what they get, for the money, yet they may not like him as a person.

I'd say that when buying second-hand, it's necessary to ask questions. Take the car to someone who knows cars -- have always done that myself. To the trained eye, some defects are not all that important and must be expected when buying cheaply. Others are serious and can usually be detected quickly by the right person.

Caveat emptor has been the rule of law for a very long time.

Sorry, I do not know Mr. Payne so cannot comment; however, if you're purchasing a used vehicle, always take it to a trusted mechanic to have it checked thoroughly.

I will assume that this poster is either Mac himself or one of the lackeys he has working for him.Notice the quick retorts & defensive remarks?Come on, by a car by whomever you like but a place like this forum isn't the place to ask. Go on the street & by word of mouth. I'm SURE you will know what kind of Landlord, Salesman he is. LOTS of People have things to say about him.
Mac or Poster or Judy whomever you are, get real.
In my opinion to the orignal poster, should you buy a car from Mac Payne & I say "Not if you plan on driving it". Anyone who's rented from him, bought from him or dated him knows BETTER! But that's what I THINK in my opinion. That's not slander, just MY OPINION!

Better not let your wife go there alone. If you do there is only a 100% chance he will ask her out. His cars are junk and his morals are worse. He is a womanizer and a home wrecker. What a nasty dirty ugly dog
