What does T-town need to become a successful business town?

What do you think Tazewell needs to become a successful business town? Is it problems with marketing the businesses? Is it lack of a market? Any ideas on how to put this town on the map? Obviously this plan we have in place isn't working. And, NO! This isn't a political post! We don't care who gets elected, in whatever election. We simply strive to make this town more than just a dot on the map. We want to hear about what you care about! We want to know what will succeed, from the potential customers. What kinds of products do you buy? What would you like to be able to buy? What limits do you have, living in good ol' T-town? What are the things you appreciate? A lot of people will write this off as a nonsense scammer plot, but we simply want to hear your feedback. So, let if flow...

Need a few nice places business people could have lunch or dinner and a few drinks... in my experience a lot of business is done over dinner and drinks and there is no where here like that..this town shuts down at 10 pm, its like someone pulls the plug, some places that stay open 24 hours would help draw people in too.

Thank you for your feedback! We've been witness to Tazewell rollin' up the streets after 10 (which I think is a late estimate, lol) and thought the same thing! I, personally, have had many business meetings close to midnight, though I lived in a much more "urban"-ized area at the time. Part of the problem is people's 9-5 (or earlier hours) schedule during most of the week. It seems as though people lose their motivation after their dreary shifts at work, and everyone sinks into an air of contentment, instead of trying to push this place forward.

With a population of 4,589 no business could stay open 24 hrs a day and survive. The problem is not the people, it is the lack of people to support businesses. There needs to be some type of business that brings jobs which would bring people.

I know I've been out of luck when trying to get gas and cigarettes after midnight, I'm sure businesses would do just fine being open 24 hours. I know a lot of people would agree with that.

All I keep hearing is how the town is broke...we need something that will not only bring jobs, but something to possibly bring people from other places, something for tourism, something that will make our revenue grow. Open a bowling alley or some kind of chain store like a Target or something. Wishful thinking, I know lol.

We need a chain restraunt.. Imagine the revenue for the Town if we have a Cracker Barrell or a Texas Road House or any other decent restaurant...I think the lines and the wait would be the only reason people would leave Tazewell to eat dinner. We have plenty of fastfood and lunch choices...WHATS FOR DINNER???

Business needs a wealthier, larger customer base...so without a large employer moving in or a boom in coal, twell faces the same for years to come....

There are several empty places in town. The old Food Lion is all but empty, a few buildings on Main Street. The County needs to do something with the old brown stone that is setting there falling apart. The old Tazewell National bank building is nice and could be about anything, retail, eating place, coffee house even a strip joint(that would bring in some action). We have some nice and unique stores in town but people will drive rigth out of town and go to wal-mart or where ever. I admire anyone who tries any kind of business in the Town of Tazewell.

One can blame it on the town council or this or that but the cold hard truth is with such a small population, almost no business will be able to sustain enough business to stay open very long.
IMO - BIGGEST ISSUE

The BIGGEST problem is the DRUGS and the SYSTEM in place that WANTS the drug problem to continue.

These seemingly "legitimate" groups are (somehow) profiting off of the drug mess and all the problems it creates.

THIS is what keeps more normal, truly legitimate businesses from getting a foothold.

Need businesses that pay good. This 7 to 10 dollars an hour isn't cutting it for people. How can anyone live on wages like that and have money to do anything. It's no wonder everyone moves away from this place. Just go on the Virginia Employment sight and look at what these businesses around here want to pay. It's pathetic. No wonder so many people windup on welfare or doing illegal stuff just to make it. If I was a kid just getting out of school in this town I'd take the first ride I could get out of this town.

The towns of Tazewell,Richlands, and Bluefeild all suffer the same things no high paying jobs and none on the horzoin to speck of. We have turned into a retirement area. Take a look out the windows in the morning and see how many houses have lights on and cars carring someone to work. That thing the are building between Tazewell and Bluefeild I think it call the Bluestone Industry Park just how much did it cost the tax payers and how many industry are in line to move in no one knows not much news on this are there. we have an airport located just outside Richlands it doesn't bring in any corporation used mostly for recerational flying. forgive some spelling area thinking and typeing at the same time isn't one of my strong points. How do we help our county officals to make good sound discisions about our future.

How about thinking of the kids and give them something to look forward to doing, instead of always saying we don't want kids hanging in bunch ,sorry but that's what kids do they hangout. It would be much better to have kids hangout at a recreational activity then in peoples homes where god knows what going on they need to be in supervise situation not left to figure it out a lone.

I don't think anything will bring Tazewell back to what is was 40 years ago. The only business that was mentioned that would maybe draw in some cash was the idea of a strip club. The biggest problem there is where would you get any strippers? Anything worth looking at is too young to strip, those in their 20's and 30's around here are toothless scab butts with their bellies hanging over their jeans. Does anyone know ladies that are good looking that would strip in this town?
