I cannot believe the teachers in this area. Facebook is full of prayers for late schedule for Tazewell County and one even was hoping for the roads to freeze so that schools would be on late schedule so they can sleep an extra two hours. Well I have to get up at my regular time and drive 28 miles to work, freeze or not. What happened to the dedication of teaching? Sounds to me like they just want to do enough to just get by.

You are clueless. Don't even think you can talk to any teacher about dedication. What gets me is teaching seems to be the only profession that takes such criticism from people that have never traveled the road. Defriend the terrible teacher!!! Question the person that posts it, but come here and question is spineless.

I agree with you. My daughters daycare is on the school schedule, so if school is delayed, so is daycare. I have to be at work at 7:45 and I don't have anything else to do with her. I just wish they would give you a better notice when they close it instead of waiting 20 minutes before its time to leave.

Maybe since you seem to be envious of teachers getting snow days and their summers off, why don't you go to school to become a teacher and then let's see what you say then? People kill me always talking about snow days and summers off for teachers. You chose your profession. If you want snow days and summers off, stop blaming teachers and become one!

Teachers are contracted for 200 days. The school system will get that 200 days, one way or the other. If you want to be a teacher then head on up to Bluefield college or Bluefield state and enroll. Both institutions have fine teacher ed programs. However, they will find spelling and punctuation to be very important. Doubt you will qualify on that. Best wishes.

I do not believe this thread concerns jealousy. I have issues with my child coming home telling me that her teacher told them to put their pj's on wrong side out and pray for snow. Why would one want to go to school for four years to go into a position that is so miserable that they have our children pray that they will not have to go to work? I have my college degree but I also respect my job. Teaching is not the only profession requiring an education.

I will agree with that. However, most teachers love what they do and as I stated in my previous post. The school board will get their 200 contracted days from the employees. Your college degree was obviously not in reading comprehension.

Probably because they have to deal with these terrible kids everyday. If these parents would raise their kids right so the teachers could teach them instead of babysit all day maybe the teachers would have pride in their jobs. Look in the mirror first.....

I don't know, once you start spouting some wisdom, I'll let you know. So far it has all been jealous ranting.

Ever hear of a sense of humor? You need to get one. The teacher was obviously being playful.

If I was a teacher I would love to have no school do to inclement weather. My cousin teaches highschool in Giles County and she loves having snow days. This is being very childish. GET A LIFE!!!

that's insane! I'm glad your never tired and wish for an extra hour of sleep. That, in no way means they aren't dedicated when there. SOL scores speak about dedication. I sure wouldn't want to sit in a room of 25+ kids everyday. Worry about them, discipline them because their parents are worthless, and know your responsible for at least half of what they learn! I'm sure you never wish for a break from your " angel" right? Smh! Judge mental ppl! Way to go teachers. Thanks for all you do!

Guess what? Teachers do not get paid for the time we are on summer vacation. How would you (if you work) survive with 3 months of no pay per year?

you are 100% on the right path parents need to wake up and take time with thier kids and teach them some respect and right from wrong and just maybe then the other kids that are thier to learn can do so!

If its your child's teacher saying this, then you should be addressing this issue with the teacher, not on Topix bashing all teachers. If you have a degree then you should be smart enough to know this! Have you ever heard of joking, maybe you need a lesson in sense of humor. Maybe your child's teacher can help you out!
