Reading the comment on the article, I had to do some looking into what was said previously about her. Apparently everyone loved their last superintendent - and hated the deputy. Looks like our boys bought us a real winner!

I am very disappointed in learning that parents and teachers had very little input in this selection process. Of course I realize that parents apparently have given up on the education of their children in Tazewell. I have 4 in the 8th grade. This is the first year in Middle School that books were available to them. On the average our kids miss 49 days for special testing--that's 2 and a half six week periods. So much for learning. Of course, we forget that they have to have special instruction days to get ready for the tests. And you ask why are we behind in education. If your child is on the upper end of learning and has very few problems (physical, behavioral, or learning) they will be ok. The first year of college may be a challenge but at least they are on their way. For the kids that do have disabilities, you are on your own, unless you find a teacher that really cares and will take the time to help. Ms. Davidson, Ms. McAvoy, and Ms. Harrison have been super at TMS. These are the ones that contacted home and wanted to help.
I also understand that we have a budget shortfall. If rumor is correct?, why did we hire a replacement for MORE MONEY???? When I worked as an office assistand or secratary, we did well to make minimum wage. Take a close look at the staff salaries at the School Board office! A few cuts there would hire some excellant teachers or at least give the ones we have, a raise. If we could get away from some of the sports hype and get into some arts and special studies, I think we would see a much happier group of students. After all, art, music, and drama students must know math, science, language arts, and history. They use these EVERY day in their class.
I am sorry I have been so long winded. I have learned a lot from my 12 grandkids. I hope they have learned a few things from me. RESPECT is the main rule. First, respect yourself, your family, your friends, your teachers and peers, and God's green earth. We may live a lot longer and learn a lot more. Treat others as you want to be treated.
