Is there not something we, as a community, can do to help raise money to save our movies?

I think it's sad that Climbing Tree is closing. They have given out thousands of free movie passes to Tazewell County Students for years.

Maybe thats exactly why they are closing. One can't keep the doors open to a for profit business "giving away" thousands of free movie passes.

The reason they are closing is because there is a new machine that coming out that plays the movies and they can afford it!
so if they

So if they can afford it as you just stated. Why are they closing? Oh I got it, they want others to pay for it. Sounds like a Obama owner business to me.

They obviously meant that to say they "can't afford it". It was a story in the newspaper or somewhere a while back where they interviewed the owner and he had expressed his concerns over not being able to afford the new equipment. I, for one, don't like the thought have having to go to Richlands or Bluefield to see a movie. I like the convenience of having this one locally. As far as the free movie tickets go, why would you knock someone doing that? Think of all the kids that have been able to see a movie that might not have otherwise been able to. They say no good deed goes unpunished, I guess that's very true in this case.

I think its wrong that we can spends thousands and thousands of dollars on a field house for a team that never wins but can't gather enough money to save our theatre which benifits everyone.

Well "help" get out there and raise some money. Get a "money man" to donate to the cause. However, don't put down a group of kids because someone did the same for them.

I trust you aren't talking to/about me since I have never been inside, much less worked at Donnie's.

the family that runs the climbing tree movie house are really good people. when you call for he movie times the owner will say whether its really for a small child or not, even though its rated for some kids(pg-13)you'll never get that from a franchise. they cut costs at the food counter to keep the prices lower than the big franchise movie theaters to keep families in the area coming there. the passes they give out to children for good grades, attendance, and then for holidays speak for themselves. i spoke to the owner about the possible closing coming up and he said it was due to the new digital movies only working on the expensive new projectors. the projectors cost over a hundred thousand apiece, & he can't afford it. just like walmart- crushing the small places & creating a monopoly. thats why he doesn't have access to certain movies, like sony ones. i wish someone with the means could go in and help them out. maybe even partnering with him. its a shame places like this will vanish, as the stores downtown due to big franchises like walmart.years after they close people will miss it. as for the football complex. more power to them for getting it. i hope it strengthens the program and gets more kids to participate. nothing bad should come out of it.hopefully it will keep kids off the streets after school and getting into trouble.

I remember going to the theater, before it was the Climbing Tree. It was nice. I have fond memories of taking my wife to the "movies". After the show we would go to the nearby Dairy Queen and get a cone.
