I hope you are right, I miss the drive in's and kids just don't know the good things they have been missing. Who owns that property and is reviving history?

By the way, where is the Walmart being built?

One more thing, I have heard the Dyers own the drive in property but I was thinking it was Aileen and Phil. Do you know?

Walmarts is suppose to be built up on Skyview hill. They have been core drilling up there and they finished up on Monday. It's the property where they used to park trucks. I don't know who owns the property where the drivein is but Wayne Jessie the mayor is the one who says the drivein is opening back up.

Is this a Drive-In restaurant or movie theater?

(I've never noticed any old screen anywhere)

Thanks for all of the info. I did look up the property owners and they are on record as Fannie and Lawrence Hughes, which I think is Mr. Dyer's relatives by marriage (Fannie may have been his wife, can't remember)and I am not 100% the records are current. Regardless, I think it is fantastic. I was just talking about it a couple of months ago and we took a ride up the street behind it to see if we could see any remnants. Unfortunately it was too over grown. I can remember people parking up there to watch the movie (maybe couldn't afford to go) and many would park on that street when they had fireworks. Of course I also remember a lot of steamed over windows in there as well (and before you say it, no they were not all mine). ha ha

You are absolutely right "brings back memories" and nearly all are good.

I will take you up on that...I could use $5. If the people want entertainment and refuse to let the druggies use it for their own personal drive through, then it can be a great place for entertainment of all generations.

Not sure where they are working....but you mean there is an old drive-in theater screen near Frostee Freeze?

Is it across the road or on the same side ?

It must be hidden really well...those drive-in screens are usually pretty easy to see (because of their height).

It's across the road from the Frostee Freeze,It's still a little hard to see because of all the trees but if you go past the car lot that used to be across the road from the Frostee and look to the left you can see the screen.

Is it just behind (further down that side road)...from that crappy CRS club?

Cool....I pulled up an aerial picture of that location and was able to see it (from above it looks like a short fence or something....but you can just barely make out the support arms on the back side).

And yes...too back about the ol' stinking CRS

Maybe if it does open back up, that place could be the snack-bar / restaurant (like maybe serve meals between double features).

The place must have been closed for a long time...for the trees to have gotten that tall.

Outdoor theaters are the coolest things....it would get a lot of business (IMO) from the surrounding towns (even from M'Town and Knoxville)....just for the experience...especially during the summer.

Hey...I checked it out today...

The place is getting cleared....but who knows for sure why...could be anything.

However...the screen is still there and it appeared to be in pretty good shape.

CRS, however, had moss, mold, and slime oozing out all of the doors...literally...with a pile of half-burned beer boxes off to the side.

What goes on in that place?

Anyway....except for that....it appears to be an ideal place for a drive in....right in the middle of everything...but well concealed.

It would be really good if they could leave as many of the trees as possible...maybe even if the total capacity was a little smaller. It'd make a really nice atmosphere.

If things were planned out, allowing for just enough line-of-site in the right places...it could be kinda like having a drive-in in the woods.

I think people would come from all around for it...especially in the summer.

But...who knows....it's probably getting cleared for something else.

The drive in is going back there. Nothing else I've heard they hope to have it open by spring of next year.
