WHat does the community think of tazewell DCS?

With the notable exception of the receptionist, their work output needs to at least rise up to their level of pay. They are complacent and lacking in motivation. The state needs to take a good long hard look at this particular office.

I used to work for DCS. You just wouldn't believe the things that happen behind the scenes. I had three counties that I,and only I, had to work. Not to mention all the home visits that I had to do. I was a juvenile probation officer, and the work load was unbearable. I really tried my very best to give all of my "kids" the same attention, along with parents. DCS is like a revoling door, there is a new worker about every 10 min. The case worker is under constant pressure from their "kids", the parents, their supervisor, the judge, etc. The case worker is trying to do the best that they can with the resources available. Oh, and their pay sucks compared to what they have to deal with on a daily basis.
Another point to mention is, DCS is constantly flooded with calls. Mostly from angered seperated parents who are just trying to get sole custody of a child, upset grandparents, nosy neighbors, the list goes on and on. The receptionist has to filter most of the calls and then send them back to the case worker. So if DCS gets 100 calls that day, you can only look into 5, maybe 6, at any given time.
Luckily, I was a probation officer and I didn't have to see any abuse. I felt sorry for the DCS workers that had to face that everyday, how numbing that would be.
I know that the state has been trying to reinvent DCS. I do know that they started with the top and rearranged some of the positions. I don't know how their policy is now, but when I worked there it needed a little oil to be fined tuned. I think that DCS will eventually fall on the right track, I just hope that its not too late. And I hope that they are able to get more case workers to help lighten the load that they carry everyday.

emmylutu...

I am a DCS worker, I want to say thanks to you. Our job is unbelieveably stressful, and unappriciated. We often have to sypher through the faulse reports, and unfortunaly some true alligations get overlooked. The turnover rate is unbeleiveaby high due to the way we are treated, internally and externnaly. Our department is going through some major changes, and hopefully it will allow us to serve our communtity better. Our goal is not to take babies away from there paretns, but to strengthen families... Thanks for the recognition. And I can gauarentee one thing... no DCS worker is lazy. Just over worked.

i have to disagree with that. the caseworkers there r lazy they dont do thir job like they should the only time they want to help someone is when the judge orders it. yea they want to leave babys with their parents but only if they need to be taken. if they dont need to be taken they pull them right out of there. the workers close out report cases such as sexually abused 18 month old babies out after a week instead of looking into it and getting something done about it. and it on tape the mother confessing that someone in her family messed wih it. and still dcs does nothing. they may as well just shut the doors and never return thats all they r good for anyway.

You have no idea what it is like to be a case worker. You have no idea what rules and legislation have DCS's hands tied. You need to walk a mile in their shoes then you may see things a little different.

i dont have to wal a mile in their shoes to know anythng i have family that used to work there i know what goes on and what dont. if u did ur job then the 18 month old baby that was getting raped by its own mothers family would not still be with her in the same situation it is in. rules and regulations, i know that u have to check into sexual abuse when its reported. or phis. abuse and u guys dont even do that. so dont say ur hands r tied u guys only take the cases u feel like taking. it was on tape about the baby and u guys shut the case and didnt even check into it. u moreless shut it before it was open. and another reason i know is because i tried to get help from u all myself several yrs back and still nothng was done. like i said YOUR ALL WORTHLESS

see there in lies the facts that you poeple don't know. A lot of what is said, is hear say. unless you know it is a fact then there are a ton of avenues to take (besides topix). You can contact the supervisor of the DCS worker, you can also get the number to Nashville DCS and contact a lawyer there. You always have the right when children are taken from the home to appeal the case and the children can remain in the home until the case is heard. Just because a judgement is made doesn't mean that a family member can't do anything about it. Did anyone go to court and see this "video"? If they did, then I highly doubt that the court would let this child be returned to the home. Did anyone offer the "video"? did the case worker know of the "video"? If not, then whoever has the video needs to give it to DCS or the DA's office. Its that simple.
And there is a difference in DCS and DHS. DHS deals with food stamps, tncare, and families first. DCS deals with children. If someone was not able to get help from DHS then you have to understand that sometimes the system works for the wrong people. I hate it as much as anyone else, but the food stamp guidelines are a federal issue, so this is something that Nashville and Washington have to fix. Call your local respresentatives if you have a problem. if you need the number, call DHS they will be happy to give it to you.

okay ppl i really need your help on this matter so here is the problem......
i have a family member that is being abused by her own mother.this is not just hearsay i know this for a fact.i have been present on many occasions that this has happened.finally,i got brave and decided it was time to take action.so i called and told the caseworker everything i had seen and heared.i was assured at that time that the problem would be looked into.but to my disbelief the caseworker reported "in their opinion"everything was fine.however,i know that things are not fine.
once again,i placed another call and to my disbelief AGAIN "everything seemed fine" there is alot more to this story but i dont even want to go there but i can assure you things are really bad for this child.
i guess what im trying to ask is"WHAT MORE CAN I DO TO HELP THIS POOR CHILD?
THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED HORRIBLE!!!!
PLEASE HELP..........

i've got a question..... a year ago my husband and i were going through divorce and his mother thought it would be a good idea to call dcs on me for absolutely no reason other than false allegations, well dcs went to my 8 year old daughters school to talk to her and ask her all kinds of questions w/o my permission or knowing. are they legally allowed to do that? what happened to PARENTS rights?

Excuse me, I am not a dumb ass. I don't work for DCS anymore. I was just letting people know of other avenues for child protection. Some people think that DCS and DHS are the same thing and they are not. Thats all I was stating. So I don't go around calling you names, so I would appreciate you not calling me names for things that are not in my control.
