Let's start a nice forum about all the things we love about Claiborne County. Some of the people on here make us sound like the people in the movie Deliverance with all the bad talking, etc.

It is a beautiful place with mountain scenery, a beautiful lake, an wonderful university, good schools, great history, fun walking trails, an excellent golf course, and is getting better all the time.

The people, for the most part, are the best you will find anywhere. If you have trouble, you will have many people knocking on your door offering help ,and probably, food. It is a good place to raise kids with no gangs. Drugs are everywhere...you just have to keep them away from that as you would anywhere. It does need more cultural things for kids such as a place to take dance lessons, art lessons, etc. You have to drive for that type of thing. It is a cheap place to live compared to many other places for all you get.

I am proud to live in Claiborne County!

Yeah, true, there are some good things about this County, but it would be a much better place if they would give our children a place to go and hang out like a ymca or ANYTHING.. maybe that would keep kids occupied so they wouldn't want to do drugs just to keep from getting bored!
Please

Actually, we have tried to get both a YMCA and a Boys/Girls Club. However, the population is not high enough to get either. It would have to be something privately owned. Our children do need a place to go.

All the parks - Harrogate, New Tazewell, and Tazewell have made major improvements to try to alleviate some of this. In warm weather, kids do have more options.

Thank you for starting a new forum (just found it this morning). I guess there are a few good people in your area. Frankly, I was getting pretty sick of the foul abuse. I have friends that have visited that area (looking at property) and I have looked on the net; from what I have heard and could see it was really beautiful. My interest was job opportunities. I should have started my own forum but had no idea that people would get so vicious over a simple question about their businesses. I have found you local paper and will subscribe to it but, yesterday's retaliatory comments have somewhat soured me on the idea of moving there.

I understand you need civil facilities for children to go to in your area. You never know who may be seeing these comments that may have had the financial ability and once considered investing in such places but are now turning in another direction. I guess people either just don't think (or maybe don't care) who they may be talking to when being so hurtful with their language.

I wish the best to all of you.

Interesting, because when it comes to business, "everbody business" is a matter of public record. Having said that, my curiosity was so peaked that I decided to do my own research. The internet contains such a wealth of knowledge. I have learned so much about "your" little town. It seems there are several places for career opportunities...1. DeRoyal Mfg., founder Pete Debusk, Bushline Inc, co-founders Hollis Bush and Litton Bush, England Corsair a subsidiary of LZ Boy, founder Dwight D. England, a few restaurants, numerous salons, other small businesses and several (what appears to be lucrative businesses) owned by James O. England and Joanna M. England these must be the people mentioned on the other forum as James and "Joanne". Due to the fact you started getting involved in these conversations regarding Mr. Poore, I just wanted to point out to you I cannot find any public record stating that he presently owns any business. But, that is neither here nor there. Another thing I am trying understand is why you have become so beligerent with me. I don't feel it is because you are concerned I may move there and take a job opportunity from you, because it is obvious we are in a totally different league.

I appreciate your offer (sounds as if you are the person with "pull"), however I have already been offered a management position almost too enticing to turn down. Unfortunately, it is not with either of those companies. I personally wouldn't mind living in a mobile home, but because of my child I really want more room. Are you familiar with Rock Harbor? It seems to be a really nice, gated area. It is one of the options I am weighing at this time but I am sure I will find something to my liking. I just can't believe cheap housing is there.

Roger owns half with James on most of the businesses. I know that for a fact. Evidently he just doesn't like to have his picture in the paper. A little modest I guess. The Chamber gave both of them an award for what they have done for the county. I am guessing you were not at the Chamber dinner to see it or saw it in the paper.

And remember, being nice gets you much more places than being mean. But I guess your name says it all.

I have seen it mentioned a couple of times that Roger was 'behind the scenes", and I just couldn't determine what that meant. I thought maybe he was a financier. Now you are saying (and sounds as if you know what you are talking about) that he owns half. What businesses does he own half??? In my research I found that Mr. and Mrs. England (I am assuming they are married) own several businesses as well as properties, however I do not see where Mr. Poore is listed as owner on any of these, maybe there are more I did not find. I understand that you can be a silent partner in business ventures but your name would still appear on the proper documentation otherwise you are not an owner. I am sorry to be so inquisitive, but on this forum and the previous some have been so adament about not talking about the businesses in your town. These people were not only protective about talking but some were just down-right beligerent. This all made me even more curious.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Virgo

It's a rather low-key day with a few disappointments to cope with along the way. If you were looking forward to a social event, such as meeting up with friends, it may fail to live up to your expectations. It might even be delayed or postponed through no fault of your own. There could also be problems about how much something is going to cost, forcing you to scale down your plans to make them more affordable.
