why were out school children put on buses and taken to school on tuesday january 22, 2008 when the highway patrol was saying that if you did not have to be on the roads stay home. was he with his latest lady friend or was he with his latest male friend and too busy to see the weather report. oh well people in claiborne county keep putting him in offices where he can get at the money.

Well I must put my 2 cents worth in here. At my house the school bus arrives at 5:55 am, that is far too early to put a child on the bus so I drive mine. At 6:15 am I looked out and my patio was completely dry, but what a difference 10 mins made. When we were getting ready, I went out to warm the car and my patio was a total sheet of ice. I feel that a decision to not pick up any more kids and for the buses to return the children home that were still near home and then get the rest of them to school as slowly and safely as possible. I know the news was predicting ice for that morning, but how many times have they predicted it or snow and then we never got a bit. I am not defending Ediie Shoffner, I do think we need someone new in there, but some things just cant be like the ice, just cant be predicted accurately enough to close school before it gets here. The kids would end up going a long time extra, if they cancelled school because of bad weather eveytime it was predicted.

If you really want to see what he does under the table, look at his past with Scott County... 'nuff said.

the weather here is unpredictable. Irregardless of what the weather report is saying, what the county school officials are saying, parents CAN make up their own minds just as "Hmmmmmm" did. Don't be sheeple; dare to think for yourself using common sense (which, having said that, seems to often be in short supply in this area).

For those who don't think Shoffner's doing a good job and/or shouldn't continue - get your butts outta your chairs and talk with others in your community and help vote in someone NEW. Complaining at home, on the internet and with a few select friends won't do the job as well as actually getting out and participating in the process.

Thanks for clarifying that because it is obvious that a lot of people on here seem to think it was a public elected position. Maybe now they will see a little more clearly.

It is definitely not a public elected position or he wouldn't have the job. The only way he got the job is because he gave another board member's son (who was going to get fired from the high school) a pie job to get her to cast her vote for him. That's the way it works in Claiborne County. All in who you know. Maybe someday we the taxpayers can vote for director of schools. It will be a glorious day in Claiborne County.

It sounds as if you are saying the School Board members select the Director, but it is my understanding that position is Govenor/Legislature appointed. I don't know Dr. Shoffner, but agree regardless of who it is, the position should be an elected one. However, from all of the topics I have been reading in the Tazewell area it sounds as if you are "batting a 1,000" on your elected officials.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Aries

The behaviour of somebody around you (most probably your partner or family member) may be rather irrational today. Alternatively, a surprise involving one of these people is possible. Try to keep your domestic plans reasonably flexible to cover all possible outcomes. The focus is on improving your relationship with your partner or with friends today. Any outings should go very smoothly.
