House passes cigarette tax

FRANKFORT - Only two Northern Kentucky lawmakers - Democrats Arnold Simpson of Covington and Tom McKee of Cynthiana - voted this afternoon for a tax increase that passed the House of Representatives. via The Cincinnati Enquirer

it is time to let the idiots running our goverment know enough is enough quit buying tobacco raise enough for your self for chewing or smoking it doesnt take that many plants to supply one person for a year 20- 40 maybe and pay no tax at all they are taxing us to death because these fools cant manage money all they know to do is waste it lets cut them off let these idiot fools steal from some one else

If they upped the tax on, say, luxury cars, they'd raise the money a lot quicker and it'd come from people would could probably more aptly afford it!!!

If you can't afford it then quit. I for one am all for anything that discourages people from smoking, I'm tired of stinking of cigarette smoke from inconsiderate people around me...

Jeremy I agree w/your take on GOOD. It's a scary world when there are people like him/her that think their way is the only way. Live and let live good. Your perfume or aftershave stinks too. Does that mean we should ban it?!

Cigarettes kill. Have'nt you heard? I know, just like everything else. Well, these things are really nasty. Would you drink bleach, if it tasted good? Would you eat vomit, if it did'nt smell. Most of all the people past and present, who smoke, smoke bcause they saw someone else do it. They thought it was cool, cuz that someone was getting attention.(negative). So then they started, and so on... Well, is neglecting yourself by consuming cigarettes, okay? I know someone who has smoked for atleast 30 years. This person is in their 60's. Overweight, lazy, don't work, has'nt worked in over 15 years. Complains, and nag's when you can't do something for them. Coughs all the time, even when not smoking. Is this a great person, for grandchildren to be around. Picture it in your head. You go to your fathers house, he wants you to bring him a carton of cigs. You don't cuz you know it's killing him. He is mad at u now. U explain why u won't buy them for him, he is treating you very differently. Mad. Your children want to see him, but they can't stay in the room with him longer that five min. at a time, cuz of all the smoke. Yeap, he does'nt even quit when the kids are in his home visiting. Would you allow your children or babies, to be around that? If so, then )(*&^)(*&^%&^%$##$ ^*&^_-+)), I can't talk like that. But, if you can imagine that, and would'nt take your children around that, great. However, now, you think he won't be around too much longer, cuz of smoking. You want your children to be a part of their granfathers life, or, do you? Ah! by the way, The Dad, was'nt really much of a dad when you were younger, and due to smoking, and being lazy, not much of a dad now. But you are the type of person who just wants to do the right thing. "Well tell me what it is, cuz i'm doing the best i can with it" Any clue?

I've got lots more. like a life's storys worth. No i don't smoke, and I can't stand the nasty things. When i see a hot chick, i mean really hot, pretty, nice, talkative, working, mother, athletic, energetic, i am attracted instantly. As soon a i see the cigarette, Bluh! Gross! "Nasty", no attraction in a long term relationship way nomore. Now all i would do with that person, is bang her. I'm not perfect, just talkn now. To each their own. I think the bottom line, and the moral of the story is that IT'S A FREE COUNTRY. At least it used to be. Used to be FOR THE PEOPLE. Now it's FOR THE BUSINESSES.
It's a shame we're so intolerant. Maybe your dad doesn't like the way you discipline your kids. Or the color you painted your living room.
Alcohol's not good for your either. Should we ban it? Should we outlaw it? Should we make anyone who takes a drink feel like a second class citizen? Cmon!

Actually I have enough consideration for other people to not wear horribly overpowering perfume/aftershave. I also try to avoid ripping huge stinky farts in public. It's called being a good neighbor.

I have no problem if you want to kill yourself with smoking. Just have the consideration to do it in private, where it doesn't affect me or my family. Or, if you prefer, just shove that cig up your ass, makes no difference to me.

This is not a debate about the dangers of passive smoking, we all know smoking is bad for us and those around us. On an individual level, freedom includes the right to do dumb things and whether others should be subject to our vices comes down to two questions, is fascism more unhealthy for a society than passive smoking and does the government really care about your health?
It's all about control, it's all about letting you know who the bosses are. If the government can regulate personal habits and behavior, what's next? If the state is so concerned about our good health as they would have you believe, why not use the latest scientific advancements to remove that nasty aggressive gene that causes so much unhappiness? Well, you're causing those around you distress and harming their health so why not? Are your political opinions a mental illness? Are they harming society? Perhaps we should ban certain types of "free" speech that is offensive to others.Smoking may be very unhealthy but I'd certainly rather be around a bunch of smokers than a bunch of Fascists.

What a great idea! Let's have a USA tobacco party...tossing all the tobacco made by the tobacco companies into the rivers and oceans and who ever wants it can grow their own! We could make history again!
