Priebe V. Lamarand who will be Mayor?

Taylor, MI - Political slate "Priebe" has been racking up fundraising over the past couple of weeks. Mayor Kim Priebe's slate includes Treasurer Wayne Avery, Candidate for City Clerk Erin Dobbins, Councilwomen Jacklyn Molner, Suzanne Weycker, Councilmen Butch Ramik, Dennis Stapleton, and Rick Sollars. It also includes two new faces Frank Canning and Rick Flood. Councilman Jeff Lamarand only opponent to Mayor Priebe is solo but has expressed his support for Re-election for Councilwoman Jill brandana and city clerk Mary Ann Reilly whom Mayor Priebe does not support. Jeff Lamarand's campaign stance is "Moving Taylor in a NEW direction" Many Taylor residents like the stance and as a Taylor resident so do I and I am supporting Jeff Lamarand for Mayor.

I think that the mayor laying off staff members shouldn't give rasises to other staff members.

You people could not be more right. This may has dissappointed us over and over again if you follow his moves. this city has just made him a rich man and as far as raises go I'm confident Mr. Lamarand will reduce salaries to an appropriate level.

Mayor Priebe is a waste of tax payers money. I think that the Taylor residents have become to comfortable with this mayor and don't want change. I understand that people do not like change and become comfortable with a person. But come on people let's take that chance and see what someone else can do for us! I believe that change is good.

Due to huge raises given to many city employees by former Mayor Pitoniak, the city of Taylor is on the state of MI "Fiscal Watch" list. This means Taylor is in danger of going broke like Ecorse.
While some change might be nice, Lamarand is heavily endorsed and FUNDED by the city workers unions. That means when he wins he will reward them with more raises and even better (more expensive) pensions!!!! And the favors will be paid for with HIGHER TAXES.
Taylor taxes are already way too high. Lamarand will only make this worse if he wins.

Dear Taylor Lady,

Yes ,you are right. We have two VERY bad candidates for mayor. Many were hoping for a third independent to run but it never happened.

Lamarand will bankrupt the city by giving huge raises and pension increases to the employee groups that are paying for his campaign.

Priebe will bankrupt the city due to general financial incompetence. He brings up good points about overspending but *never* fixes it.

And yes, Jack Desrosiers so needs to go and never come back. Many of the financial problems only got much worse under his watch. He serves no purpose but to collect taxpayer money.

Fred,
Who are you talking about? Jeff Lamarand has not and will not promise anybody anything. He will reduce salaries which in the end will reduce pensions. The city of Taylor doesn't have two bad candidates, it has one bad mayor in Priebe. Jeff Lamarand will make a great mayor and I for one cannot wait for November 3rd. Taylor residents VOTE LAMARAND!

I work in for the Fire Dept. in Taylor and yes we are working hard to see Lamarand as the new Mayor, but I can assure there has been no promises made to us. Quite the contrary, working closely with Jeff we have seen him time and again refuse to make promises for help with his campaign, even when those with influence offer but with their hand out...He has already promised to take at least a 10% cut himself, I doubt that will translate into raises for us. I believe it is Priebes desire to get rid of us many of us as possible and is why I am working for Lamarand, I pay high taxes here (highest around) and think we deserve to have public safety staffed at safe levels. Taylor voters please research the info, check out jefflamarand.com

Dear "Taxpayer",

You state you live and work in Taylor, let your handle ID clearly states you are from "Milford, MI"... you might wanna fix that inconsistency.

Unfortunately your staffing levels, pay and pensions are what cause us to pay the highest taxes around. The only way to fix the mess is to make MAJOR changes in how we provide fire services to this city. A firelighter has a lifetime cost to the taxpayers of over 3 MILLION. For a 60 member department like Taylor, that's over $175 MILLION dollars. And the only way to pay for this is by increasing taxes

I do not live in Milford, just Al Welch probably does not live in Illinois but Taylor as he said, I live in Taylor and have for over 10 years. It is funny that the other cities in the area who pay lower taxes but pay their firefighters the same or more are not blaming the Fire Dept. for their troubles. You probably know this next point "Fred" but when we started as full time Paramedics in this city we were making $8.52 cents an hour, our next raise was to $10.00 an hour and then to $13.00 an hour, drastically under our comparables. Finally we are making what a full time firefighter makes and it is an issue. I doubt you made 80% to 100% less than your comparable for years in whatever city job it is that you do, but I did, and stuck it out and now people like you want to say we are the problem. Compare our run volume to the surrounding cities and the number of people we get the job done with, Taylor is getting a deal. We are down 12 people from when I started, I can't imagine being lower and can only hope I don't see it as a resident and as an employee...

Dear Taxpayer,

I agree with your history of starting wages for new firefighters. BUT my concern is what costs are NOW, not years ago. The fact that the lifetime cost to the taxpayers for a single fighter is over $3 Million should not be misconstrued to mean that this is the total pay for a firefighter. No one is saying that a firefighter gets a check for $3 Million!!! Its just that when you add in a very generous pension system AND other benefits WELL ABOVE anything in the private sector, it totals $3 Million per firefighter.

Its nothing against the firefighters, but the MATH no longer works. It would take housing prices to double every 10 years for this to work. So its time to fix it...

There is only one LONG term solution to this financial crisis, and its to reorganize the fire department as a "combo" department. Its what many other cities do (Woodhaven, Rochester Hills, Troy, Novi, to name a few) and it works real well!!! Basically we keep the paramedics/firefighters we have but ADD part-time/volunteer/paid-on-ca ll at very little cost to the taxpayers. Everyone wins!!!!

I imagine that consolidation is a thing of the future and I don't necessarily think it is a bad thing in many ways. Some expensive equipment could be shared which would be good, but manpower will always be an issue. As far as the pension costs, we agreed to pension reform in our last contract, something you guys forgot to put out in the literature about us.

Fred,

I apologize for the "Team" implication, I doubt you are a solid "team" supporter. That is another huge reason for me to vote for Lamarand is the "Team" concept is such a bad system for the taxpayer...lets elect these people based on one guys popularity and see if they are able to think for themselves on the council, all around bad government.

Take care Fred

If everyone would just take the time to read Mr. Lamarand's lit they would see he has made the following pledge to the people of this community:
Provide oversight of public funds and city operations for everyone to view
Protect spending on Senior services
Provide tax relief for residents and businesses
Reduce inflated salaries for Mayor and appointees(this one reduces pensions)
Make neighborhood safety a priority
This says it all for me. Jeff Lamarand will see that these changes happen. The current mayor has failed for almost 20 years. Vote Lamarand!
