has anybody else had issues with the IKO Shingles? My experience below:

Recent windstorms have us replacing our roof, which is no big deal.

I was offered IKO shingles, and said absolutely not.

My home in northern Michigan, a relatively gentle climate, had IKO shingles, brand new, when I bought the home. I didn't like the ventilation, so added 7 roof vents, and new soffit 2 years after buying. Plus added 8" of insulation. This was 1994.

8 years later, Memorial Day 2002, the IKO shingles, now 10 years old, were cracked, curling, brittle, dry, broken.

I went to the local lumber yard where the shingles were purchased, and they just said forget dealing with IKO. They had told the lumberyard don't even bother calling them, and there were no adjustments to be made.

Many home owners across the entire northern region were in the same boat, from what I heard from 2 lumberyards.

The opinion of the lumberyards were that IKO flooded the market, and now the roofs were leaking.

I stripped the roof completely, and was shocked how easy the shingles came off in broken chunks.

It was a 3 day job for me. Stripped front half, repaired, cut for the ridge vent. since the pitch was 3.5 - 12, used ice and snow shield across the entire roof.

Used the Certainteed 40 year AR Colonial Slate Architechtural shingles.

Then did the back half. It was actually a great 3 day project. the roof was 58 feet long, 36 feet wide, measured as a flat surface.

But the IKO shingles were absolutely crap in my opinion. They also failed way to early, especially since I had upgraded the ventilation. They were 25 year shingles, and barely made 10.

We are having the same problem here in Wichita, Kansas. Our double-wide is barely 6 years old and the roof has been leaking since day one in different areas. We contacted IKO by sending in the two shingles and photos required. IKO reps replied that the shingles we sent them had 'fissures' that were normal and that the scientific testing proved it didn't affect their ability to protect the roof from weather. They would not show it as a warranty claim on the roof. We have all the documentation. We intend to pursue it further.

I redid my roof around 1995 also. It was a complete tear-off, with water and ice shield several feet up on all edges and IKO shingles. A few winters later my dining room ceiling collapsed from water damage. They blamed it on ice damming. A couple of years later, after having the ceiling replaced it started leaking again so i tore the celing out myself, and while it was completely open, and the outside temperature was above 50 degrees it leaked again. The wholesale supply house told me that I would be wasting my time going after IKO and that they wouldn't even stock their product anymore because of the number of complaints.

I had Hart Roofing shingle my home in 2000. Do I have to worry about IKO shingles being used?

I had iko shingles installed 10 years ago with a 30 year guarantee; they are literally falling apart. the rooferwho installed them said that it appeared that they failed and offerered to replace them with no labvor charge if iko would supply the shingles. iko said that nothing was wrong with them and ferused any compensation. DO NOT BUY IKO SHINGLES.

Purchased our home in Feb 1999 with Renaissance XL (25 yr) asphalt shingles.

Now, 10 years later, the shingles are cracking, curling and falling off.

Two neighbors in same development have alreADy had their roofs replaced.

I have not contacted IKO yet, but my neighbor was only reimbursed $800 for her entire roof.

Not one roofer I have talked to has anything good to say about IKO.

We have IKO shingles on our house. Ten years later they are falling off, curling, and cracking. I have fixed leaks in the roof a few times. Has anyone had any luck on their warranty? Is it a waste of time?

We just purchased a house in Waterdown with these same shingles, and after receiving a quote from 3 different roofers with an average price of $12000, IKO has offered to pay $870. These are 25-year shingles and have lasted less than 10 years.

Anyone out there in the Toronto area launching a claim? If so, should we also begin a class action suit? This amount of warranty is quite unacceptible!!

IKO Renaissance are nothing but a big disappointing headache.
The press / government needs to do something about this.
New roof professionally installed less than 9 years ago.
Followed all the instructions for a valid warranty claim. Their lab says "there is nothing wrong" ZERO $ offered in settlement.
5 Roofers inspected and commented - product is "crap" a known concern .

I am having the same problem with my house built in 2002 equipped with Rennaissance. After two leaks, cracking and splitting as described above, CRC refuses to even start a claim, as I am not the original owner and cannot prove transferability, although I was able to obtain proof of purchase from the store where the tiles were bought. How Machiavellian is that ???

Purchased IKO Chateau shingles in 1999 in 2007 noticed curling, cracking and the shingles are very brittle, no leaks yet but being a 12 pitch roof may be a help. Lets see what IKO comes back with from my complaint.

I have to put new shingles on my home. At present, I have two quotes. My first option is the CertainTeed Landmark 30 yr for $6,600 (2 500 sq ft) and the other option is IKO Cambridge 30 yr for $5 700 (2 500 sq ft). Are these worthwhile choices or should I keep looking?
