What will be the cost to the Lake County taxpayers funding 10 employees schooling, salaries, benefits and other costs associated with applying for grants from other taxpayers (state, federal etc) in relationship to the grants received?

There have seen instances in other governmental areas that benefit of what is received does cover the cost of getting it.

It sounds good though.....like the Sheriff's office would be getting "free" money.

This statement is not true. Go back to the County Commissioner meeting in Sept. 2006 before Chris died and you will see who go the pay raise for the deputies.....Just check on it why don't you.

Borders has done an excellent job since he took over. There are very few law enforcement agencies in the state that have been through what LCSO has in the last 4 years. Borders has maintained professionalism and moral in tough times. He is continuing to move the agency forward, always looking for ways to make it better. He has made changes in staffing in key positions that make the day to day operation better. And yes he does work to much. Many a deputy has looked over there shoulder to see him as there back up on a call, How often does that happen in other counties??? Keep Borders Sheriff of Lake County in 2008

I had long contemplated another vote for former Sheriff Knupp, but it appears to me that current Sheriff Borders has done an excellent job. The old saying of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here!

It's called multi-tasking. The deputies maintain their current positions, but are also trained to apply for grants. That way the taxpayers are getting the most out of their deputies.

Gary has shown time and time again he is a leader. Ask anyone who works for or with him. I did on several occasions and the answers were in overwhelming support.

We had an issue in our area of the county. Our Commissioner (Stivender)wouldn't help any anyway nor would(Sanford whatever)the county attorney. We called Sheriff Borders and he came out personally. Reviewed the problem and agreed with us there was a serious safety issue and corrected the problem. We were highly impressed with Sheriff Borders and he certainly has our votes.

I had the unfortunate task of having to interact with Boarders on a professional level and found him to be the most arrogant, rude, unprofessional person I have dealt with. This was before he was in the position of sheriff, so I fear to think what he would be like now.

I am tired of hearing other candidates supporters raise non-issues because they cannot find anything else to chase after. I disagree with the negative comments on the Sheriff...to me and countless numbers of others he has been one of the most caring, concerned people out there. He extended his hand and helped me look into an issue that caused a lot stress in my life, others approached with this issue gave a standard letter response.

His has gone above and beyond the duties of a Sheriff and I highly commend him for it. We are lucky to have him, it is his good work that will keep him in office.

If the speech is redundant then obviously many people are saying the same thing...that he has gone above and beyond normal duty.

I have gone into detail about qualifications previously, and since the same people always read the comments, they have seen it already. GARY BORDERS IS the SHERIFF and he has done a fantastic job. Hence the reason you pick non-issues to post about. He is a law enforcement administrator, he knows how to RUN the agency and he runs it well. To me, accreditation is a big deal, the jail was accredited by the commission under Borders as a major and now that he is the Sheriff, the whole agency is accredited. He was recently awarded Sheriff of the Year for the state of Florida by the FDOA. This award was given in recognition of his "Outstanding leadership and administrative qualities" as it says on the award.

That's exactly it, leadership and administrative qualities. Enough people are taking about it, and hes gotten enough awards for it. Denying it makes you look ignorant. That combined with proven results makes the decision an easy one...see you on August 26th.

Well treat everyone fairly...with as much smoke as there is coming from Mysinger, I was surprised to see you over there supporting him on that thread. If what you think you found about our Sheriff upsets you and you claim that you want to know the truth, the last name I expected you to cough up was Mysinger.

The point I am trying to make is that you came to this thread to mud sling because you are a supporter of another candidate. Mudslinging has no place, but you are condoning it. I have never made a public personal remark about your candidate, I don't expect you to make one about mine, particularly when all you have are rumors. The issues you come up with are immaterial.

Now before all the hate starts, let me preface this by addressing the haters, this is not a personal issue, it is pure and unbiased as I am not affiliated with either camp. However I have done a ton of research into Tom Mysinger and current Sheriff Gary Borders, I felt compelled to address issues that are important facts that the voters need to be aware of. And before you all start spouting off, I can back up all these statements, can you.
Ask yourself this, how is Tom Mysinger a good leader.
Following the untimely passing of Sheriff Daniels, why did not Tom aggressively step to the plate and assume the burden and responsibilities of acting Sheriff during this horrific event and troubling times, who according to his literature, he is more than qualified. Why…..because he could not, he is not a decisive person, he is very insecure in whom he is as a person and a leader, he could not then and he cannot now. If he disagrees with this statement what has changed in his persona between the 14th of October 2006 and now. Watch him in the public forums, he cannot look a voter in the eyes either when he speaks or when he is a group of people he does not know, why, truly I believe he knows in his heart he is not capable of fiscally managing a muti-million dollar budget.
Why has he a Lieutenant for 15 years, that seems a long time in position for someone of his advertised qualifications, because Sheriff Knupp knew he was not a worthy leader, and only after a tremendous amount of internal whining did he get promoted, why, so he could retire out with his high five being increased. Why did Sheriff Daniels not promote him when he was elected to a vacant Major position? Because again a Sheriff knew he was not a worthy leader. He was in turn, placed in a position where he could “ride the coattails” of Cecil Garrett.
Why was Tom removed as commander of the agencies evidence section, because of a huge drug destruction that was done prior to the case being resolved? Why was Tom, whom if you read his qualifications he most certainly should have been, not assigned command of swat when Claude Gnann retired? Why, because Sheriff Knupp and Sheriff Daniels knew he could not effectively lead this high liability unit. These are but of many examples given to me, some appear to be personal, however I implore all that have additional poor leadership examples to please add to this to educate the voting public.
