Lake County Appraiser who fought taxes now taking on death

A 67-year-old Mount Dora man who has been battling a rare and complex blood disease had to have a heart valve replaced last year, a result of damage from the blood disorder.

Will Ed be missed? Yes, However, thats part of life. We all die. Ed lived a long and productive life. Many young men and women die long before their time in far away lands. My tears go to them.

Ed is one of those remarkable people who has never used his office as a stepping stone for the next one. His only thought has been to perform his job competently and professionally. The question he asks is, what is the right thing to do, not the politically expedient thing.

I wonder if the citizens of Lake County really know what a wonderful man Ed Havill is. He is truly the example of a "public servant". He has fought for the citizens of Lake County all of his adult life. I wish his personal standards, morals and ethics could be shared by every politician in all levels of government. I grew up in Eustis having Mr. Havill as a neighbor and interacting with his children on a regular basis. I always respected him, but it wasn't until I became an adult that I realized what an incredible human being and public servant he is. If ever I am in a fight, I would hope to have Ed Havill or someone of his ilk on my team. If he is determined to beat this, I just bet he will. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
