The book was never in print. She apparently was an imposter. Didn't even spell her last name correctly.

Does anyone know of any source for photographs of downtown New Kensington in the 1950's and 1960's?

<quoted text> There was swimming hole just down puckety creek from memorial park we called " BAB " It was also call Big Rock because of a very large boulder in the middle that you could dive from. Swam there alot in the summer time in the late 40's, and Ice skate'd there in the winter. Done alot of swimming in the river also.Blair
That hole was still there in the early 70's. Icescated all over the "crick" from the 7th ave bridge all the way to memorial park and back. Would collect minnows and tadpoles in the summers. Great times but the times were a changin'.

I remember that hole from the 40s. Used to swim there in the summer, but I always fished in the creek(crick) farther up, past the park. I used to ice skate up the creek, and also, on the pond in the park near the entrance. We played hockey there, and on the creek. Used to walk down the hill, from my home, into the valley and down to the park. That is one of my fondest memories of New Kensington.
In 1977 while on our way to New York, My wife, Paula sang in the park with John Desimonde and his band from the Bachelor's club.
I know, I posted this before. Had to remember it again.

Hello all! I have really enjoyed reading some of the posts about how this places used to be. I am somewhat new to the area and I just love it here. I am wondering what, if anything, you guys remember about some of my favorite buldings around here.
There is on on 4th ave that a few years back was home to an Altmeyers home store. Was it anythig before that? Did it have a crazy history like some of the others around here? The red brick building on the corner of 5th ave and 9th street, I think the address would be 900 5th ave but I am not sure. I think some have mentioned it was a Sun Drug store, but I may have it confused with another building.

The old Altmeyers store used to be a five and ten called Authenrytes(sp.) The Sun Drug was the red brick, like you said. Welcome. If you like the area now you would have been soooo amazed what a wonderful town it used to be.

Oh neat. I will take a look around and see if I can find any info on them. Thank you! I can only imagine what this town used to be. I love the feel of the town, but I would have loved to see it in its hayday. I don't think it will ever be what it once was, but I do think it is on the rise once again, albeit a very slow one. Thank you for the welcome.:) Everyone one here has been very friendly and welcoming. Never have I seen such a friendly area. I am glad to call this place home.

As for standing armies, the trick would be to keep them from shooting EACH OTHER!

CC, How about the "FEMA" Army...... What is that all about.. That is reason enough to go out and purchase at least a High Power Rifle.....

I think we know who is doing all the gunning and shooting each other. It is not the Deer Hunters... Try looking at the "Inner City Yutes" and the Drug Dealers.. Most of them wouldn't know what a deer looked like if it came up to them and bit them in the "Butttocks".

Google "Fema Army".... Yes Sam it does exist. Graduated its first class in Sept 2012... Wonder why it was not dispatched to NJ or NY....

I find it funny what I remember about the 50's in and around New Ken.

I remember as a very young kid, going into the Star Market at 9th and Barnes street and being fascinated by the " Electric Eye" that opened the door for you. I thought that was just about the greatest thing I had ever seen.

Then later in the 50's when they started putting those big-a** fins on cars. I remember the ads trumpeting "suddenly, it's 1960!". I think by the time 1960 actually came around, those rocket ship fins were just about gone, except for maybe Chryslers.

Isn't it odd what tends to stick in your mind from those long-ago day?

Does anyone who attended St. Pete's remember the pulpit which hangs on the wall on the left at the front of the church every being used? I have a vague recollection of it, but don't know if I'm remembering or imagining.
