Tarentum Borough Council to deal with trash, trucks, and power
There are 2 comments on the story from Feb 18, 2008, titled Tarentum Borough Council to deal with trash, trucks, and power. In it, reports that:
The Tarentum Borough Council meeting tonight was held in the midst of what Borough Manager Bill Rossey called "so many good things" happening in town. The Allegheny Together program is underway with more workshops being scheduled. The borough is in the process of getting some vacant buildings demolished.
The Council spent most of the meeting listening to citizen concerns, many of which revolved around problems with trash and trucks.
Bernie Bertolino of West 11th Avenue raised a concern about trash not having been picked up in a whole neighborhood for almost a week. The trash pickup had been delayed initially because of the weather at the beginning of last week. Allegedly, two of Waste Management's trucks had been in an accident and were out of commission. Her concerns struck a chord with several other residents who had grievances with the way Waste Management has handled trash pickup. Bill Rossey said that Waste Management had always been responsive to him, and he encouraged residents to communicate their concerns about trash pickup as quickly as possible. He said Waste Management would hear from him Tuesday morning.
Residents from different neighborhoods had concerns about commercial truck drivers operating their vehicles on sidewalks and lawns, causing property damage. One West Tarentum resident said that trucks had damaged his water line. An East Tarentum resident described a driver operating his rig off the street for 43 feet, allegedly damaging a telephone pole, but the driver was only given a warning.
Council President Carl Magnetta reported that the council was going to need to hold a special meeting in the near future about the power contract.
Mayor James Wolfe reported that the need for a Second Ward polling place has been resolved. The polling place has been the Second Ward School, a building that is now up for sale by the Highlands School District. On the next election day the polling place for residents of the Second Ward will be the Tarentum Borough Building, in the Council chambers.
Borough Mannager Bill Rossey announced that the whole borough building has been repainted. He also announced that the Town Meeting canceled on February 13 is tentatively rescheduled for March 5.
Immediately after the adjournment of the meeting, a number of council members left their seats to talk more personally with the residents who had been present to voice their concerns.

I would like to know what the times are for accepting noise in town. For the last two weeks the garbage collection has been going around between 4:00 and 4:15 on Tuesday mornings. Myself and other residents on these streets do not appreciate being woke up by the garbage truck. Would you appreciate being woke up early when in another hour you have to get up for work? I have three young children, fortunately my oldest can sleep through just about everything. However, my 2 and 4 year olds wakes up scared because they run the cruncher and then are afraid to fall back asleep. So not only am I awake already, but then I have to deal with two young children. I know sooner get them relaxed enough to fall asleep, it is to late for me to go back to bed. I lose 2 HOURS OF SLEEP because of this!!! This is ridiculous!! It wasn't bad enough that a few weeks before they never even came to collect the garbage on tuesday morning until the following morning because of snow. Between my husband and I, we had called every day that week about it being collected and every day we were told that they are to come around that day to get it. We were also told that they were not able to make it because of the snow, which I found COMPLETELY AMAZING since the residents who drive normal every day cars were able to pass through on the streets, but the garbage trucks were not able too??? If I told my boss that for a week I wouldn't have a job. I guess when you work for the borough you are able to get away with flimsy excuses and there are no consequences. However, I am now more concerned about the collection time of the garbage. Something needs to be done about this. Last year they would come after 6:00 am. At least that is a little bit more acceptable. There is no need to be coming around at 4:00 in the morning.

Chele, I would suggest that you call the Borough Office and ask them whether there is a noise ordinance that governs things like this.

If you can't get an answer from the office, contact the Borough Council Representative(s) for your ward. Do you know which ward you are in?

I understand how annoying it is to be awakened so regularly at 4AM. I once lived somewhere that had garbage pickups three days a week at about 4AM. My solution at the time was to go to bed earlier.
