On CNN today they were reporting that the reason for such a operating loss is that they are forced to fully fund the Retirement Fund...... There is presently more Retirees in the Postal System then working Bees... Kinda sounds like Social Security...
Okay now we are getting down to the"nittie gritie".Why don't we as american citizens require all past elected officals post publicly the amounts we as citizens have to pay for these elected officals? We have the right to disclosure since we are paying it,correct? Also if there have been any increases.Lets not forget what the past presidents recieve as well as health cost. The more they cut such as the postal workers the more they can recieve. It's time we as Americans stand up and require a accounting as they require from us each year at tax time!!!

<quoted text> Not Social Security, government retirement fund is killing social security. Like Warren Buffet said, "stop all government pensions.*Congressional Reform Act of 2012*_
1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
Ok Sam, Take a dep breath.... Something we can agree on...... Is this the first of meany more to come....

You may not know that the Congress mandated that the USPS pre-pay billions of dollars, shorting their money on hand. Some in Congress want the USPS to go bankrupt because they favor privatizing the mail system; turning it over to a profit making corporation.

Guess what that would do to the cost of mailing anything.

" The USPS has overpaid $75 billion into the federal retirement fund. This has been confirmed by the Postal Regulatory Commission and the Office of Inspector General. They are also forced to pay over $5 billion per year to prefund retiree health benefits 75 years in advance, something no other agency or company has to do."

CC, Chuckie Cheese is complaining about the 75 Billion of Dollars the Postal Service has supposedly over paid into the Federal Retirement Account.

Nobody says "Crap" about the Billions of Dollars the working stiffs of Ameica has paid (over paid) in to Social Security that they thought was a Retirement Account and are now being told by the Feds... "Sorry the account will run out of money soon"..... all because they have spent it on other Gov programs including every day pay checks for themselves and other fed employees...... oh yes just keep on sending the money and we will keep on spending.....

CC, The only thing(well almost) Ronald Wilson Reagan ever did wrong was have those two kids with Nancy... Patti and Ron. You know who I mean, Ron the "Communicator" who shows up on MSNBC when they need a patsy (puppet) to mouth the talking points for the day. Hasn't been around lately, must be off doing his ballet. Tippy Toe Ron.

His off spring (1) with Jayne Wymann, Maureen seems to be of sound mind and body and also the adopted son Michael Reagan....... He should have stayed the adoption Route.

I'm thinking Pittsburrrrrrrrgh Ben has RR confused with the father of "The Great Society" Lyndon Baines Johnson... Remember Lyndon.

Check your facts (if you dare). It was during the Reagan administration that the SS finds were first raided.

The Social Security Act was drafted by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt‘s committee on economic security, under Edwin E. Witte, and passed during FDR’s first term which provided for workers who reach the age of 65 a pension of $8 a week at most. The plan had to be pushed through against FDR’s procrastination until finally in the 1934 congressional elections the Republicans denounced him for his tardiness. When FDR finally consented to a bill, it contained a plan for building a huge reserve fund that would extract billions from the workers’ payrolls without any adequate return. Over the protest of the President, the Congress finally took that provision proposed by Roosevelt out of the law.[5]
President Lyndon Johnson raids the Social Security Trust Fund to wage the Vietnam War

President Johnson created the ‘unified budget’ in the late 1960s to disguise the real cost of the Vietnam War.[6][7] President Johnson did not want to ask for income tax increases to pay for several ambitious government programs of that era (the Vietnam War, the Great Society War on Poverty, the NASA Space Race). Putting surpluses from Social Security overwithholding “on budget”(adding them to the general operating budget of the United States Government) so the overwithholding could be used to pay for other government programs would make the federal budget appear balanced. The resulting debt to Trust Funds would be presented “off budget.”

In 1967 President Johnson appointed a Commission on Federal Budget Concepts which in its October 1967 report proposed a unified budget to do this. Johnson submitted the first unified budget to a Democratic Congress for Fiscal Year 1969 scheduled to begin on July 1, 1968. Thus was born the practice of using Social Security Trust Fund surpluses – or “Intra-governmental Holdings of Debt” to hide the size of the overall federal deficit.
