LOL....The area wasn't that great 20 or even 30 years ago. What I have difficulty understanding is how someone who's lived there (and places like it) will see the area slowly fall apart, business and industry leaving, incomes shrinking, losing their job and refusing to leave for a better life. I know of recruiters for jobs trying to get recent college grads to move out of Pa. for positions in their company only to be told they want to stay in the area.
I grew up across the river.

Olderndirt,you are correct it wasn't a utopia
20/30 years ago but it certainly was not as bad
As it is now.I remember spending a lot of time
Shopping and doing things with my friends in town
Most of the stores are gone and not much development going on.
Perhaps we should open up a tumble weed factory
And turn a profit and not reinvest in the
Communitiy,WHEN IN ROME!
I live in northern Virginia there are a lot of families from pa here, they all agree with what
You have said.

Having traveled through North Va. many times, I must admit you've climbed the ladder both socially and environmentally. I presently live in the Crooked Creek area near Ford City where I've seen this entire area go the way of pennsytucky.
The town of Ford City has lost about 80% of the jobs that was here about 10 years ago. One could probably buy a home in town for $30,000 or less just like Tarentum. Ol Tom Jefferson knew what he was doing when he built Montecello.
The El Paso location is where one of my children lives and where I'm spending the winter.
