Duo makes a present of the city's past

Orlando is bursting with history, and thanks to two longtime residents, its past will not be forgotten.

Thank you for the great write-up. Having lived in Orlando for 77 years, I am pleased to be a part of Orlando Remembered. We have a beautiful city but we should not neglect the past upon which we build.

The picture is of Dann and Andy in front of the Orlando Remembered display at the County Courthouse. It depicts how the block looked in the 1930-50s. The Wyoming Hotel is among the many oak trees. Guernsey's red brick colonial- style Orlando Federal Savings & Loan Assn. was at the East end and Yon's Furniture store and the Food Palace were at the other end of the block. Also a miniature chair like the one that was on top of Yon's Furniture. The Avalon Hotel and Enzor's Pharmacy was in the picture painted by artist Jim Stoll. The original souvenir plate from the opening of the Wyoming Hotel (circa 1900), and a picture of the Herman Hillman's ( he named streets after himself and wife Amelia), photo of Myrick'Furniture Co. and House of Fowers, and artifacts from the Orlando Food Palace and Wyoming dining room. Also a souvenir cigarette lighter from "Langford Construction Company", offices in the OFS&L bldg. and photos of the coquina block house and white colonial style houses across the street, are in the display( M.O. Anderson, CPA offices).
