The State Attorney's Office on Tuesday refused to take a case against Minneola City Council member Ed Earl to trial and instead cut a deal with him to drop a petty-theft charge related to 52 campaign signs ...

Good ole Mayberry, er, Minneola, at it again. What kind of nonsense is this? Another black eye for their crackpot City Council. They are a government entity and act like a homeowners association fighting over what color someone's house is - a bunch of petty bickering.

What power do they have anyway? Annex more land? What else?

what kind of message does this send to kids and the community? Its ok if you are a small time councilman to do a crime? This is the kind of thing that really hurts our community by setting a poor example. Im sure he is without honor in his daily life. Chances are good however, if you look close, Ed is involved in other crimes that are more serious. Find out good people of Minneola, and pursue justice

Slap the hand of a govinment employee while sucking the lifeblood out of civilians who mess up. This ritual has skyrocketed as much as the guvinment budgets have. And as an added bonus, more and more laws enacted to make us criminals to pay the never ending devouring guvinment trough that will end up bankrupting our nation. Another Nifong kids glove treatment. People keep warning you. You do not listen. Why does human history keep repeating itself? All of those people incarcerated for offenses arguably lesser than scum who get away with crimes because they work for guvinment are owed and their families are owed. Freedom..bwahaha

Who is the scumbag--the criminal Ed Earl or the State Attorney.
I say they both are. Ed Earl for stealing the signs and the State Attorney for not letting this go to trial.
So the message for the city of Minneola and the State of Florida is go ahead and commit crimes as long as you are an elected official the State Attorney will not prosecute you.

Use your heads people, it is Minneola! This type of "hooyee" has been going on for years!

State Attorney Brad King is a good man, and his office is right! It is a 2nd degree misdemeanor! It will cost more to have a trial than to have the "JERK ED" pay back the lousy $110.00 dollars for the theft!

Plus, if the boneheads of Minneola do the right thing and throw the "BUM" out of office, that will do far more damage to his ego and maybe, just maybe, help the cities image, if that is at all possible. The cities image is and has always been in the tank since time began!

But, take a breather boys and girls! I doubt very seriously that the State Attorney Brad King is going in the tank over this trivial nonsense from good ole Minne-ha-ha (as I call it)!!!!!

Something will never change!

News flash: This guy isn't being treated any differently than anyone else.

This type of sentence is common for the petit theft charge, in fact, it may be a tad bit harsher.

No body EVER does the maximum sentence and they almost always plea out. Imagine if everyone decided to take their cases to trial....the criminal justice system would be bogged down for years.

Attempting to influence the outcome of an election by illegal and unethical means should not be considered a misdemeanor.
The State Attorney is flat out wrong. Elections in the local arena are every bit as important (or should be) as any state or national contest. The citizens should have confidence in the election process and the laws governing the conduct of all during elections.
We all know that the legal system and justice is based on "case history". To establish a precedent by bringing this case to a trial would not be in the best interest of the politicians of the State of Florida. The State Attorney serves them, not the people of Florida.
Justice is blind? Only to those of us who expect that it truly is "for all".

Hey Darrell,
Not only is justice blind, its also deaf and dumb.
Richard Pryor had the real meaning of "justice"
He said when he got to the county jail thats all
he found there "just us".

And by the way Blah-blah-blah my city is called Minneola not minne-ha-ha you dumb jackass.

If ya'll are all so damn smart why did you let someone so rotten on the council in the first place. Sounds to me like ya'll should get of the blogging and get your butt down to city hall and fix all these things you are so intelligent about! If the man is a crook make
someone prosecute him. If yu don;t like the job
your elected peresecutor if doing raise enough

Dude or dudett, whichever the case maybe, you may call me a "Dumb Jackass" if you wish, I have very thick skin!

If you missed the spirit of my comments then it means you are ignorant (true since of the word, not name calling) of what has gone on in the city of Minne-ha-ha for the last twenty years or more! I will give you afew examples!

They had to turn over the Police Dept to the Sheriff, due to the facts that the city counsel could not figure out how to handle it, both financially and procedurely!

Then the arrest of said mayor for the theft of dirt! Need I say more!!!!(That one still kills me).

Now the whole "Earl sign" saga......

Then there is the fact that the city has been carved into a mess from basically unregulated and poorly planned growth!

Now you may say it is the poor citizens of the city that suffer, but figure this out dude or dudette they keep electing the same type of boneheads that keep them the laughing stock of Central Florida for goodness sake!

Do you see a consistant thread here? The Mayor, city counsel or counsel canidates!!! Get it? Probably not!

As I said once before I tried to get the City of Minne-ha-ha moved to Utah, but the citizens there threatened me with legal action if I continued!

That is a joke, never mind it went right over your head!!

You actually have the nerve to post that on here? Were you not a mayor who the cops pulled over caught on tape in a DUI? Yet were you charged? Is this a joke or what???? They drove you home instead of jail!!!!
