An 80-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after she attacked a Tavares police officer following a car accident, officials said.

Don't even TRY to justify her actions. There is absolutely no justification AT ALL which is why she was booked. She deserved everything she had coming to her and then some. Has anyone thought that maybe this 80 year old woman is in the beginning stages of dementia or Alzheimers? She may not have family around to ascertain the situation and take her license away. It is unconscionable what she did but there are two sides to every story.

From the way the woman was acting, it sounds like the police followed proper procedure. Once they got her to the police station, they could make a determination if she was just being a nasty old lady, or if she's suffering from dementia/Alzheimers, or possibly even had "mixed her medications" and was having a reaction? If they shouldn't have arrested her, what exactly should they have done? Let her get back in her car and go back to driving recklessly?("John," as a former emergency services worker, I've found that the people who go around mouthing off about police officers all the time are usually involved in things they shouldn't be....)

I do not understand how some individuals are trying to villianize the police officer in this situation.

The officer had every right to arrest this woman -- obviously she was showing no respect for the law and was out of control. Her age does not matter -- she acted badly and she is now receiving the consequences.

The thought of the day should be: "I will take responsibility for my own actions and not blame others for my mistakes."

Agree. There is somthing definitely wrong here. No little old lady fights and shimmeys out of handcuffs for no reason. And the police officer had no choice to do what they did. I'm sure they handled her as gently as possible.
