So there I was, a black man having dinner in a Chinese restaurant in Taneytown, a city named for a distant relative of the Supreme Court chief justice who said my people were not and could never be citizens.

excerpt that says it all ;

In antebellum America there were sanctuary cities that welcomed escaped slaves and refused to return them over to federal marshals, as required by the Fugitive Slave Law. But there was a higher principle involved: the notion that slavery was morally wrong.

What's the higher principle involved in not cooperating with federal authorities seeking to arrest those who violate our immigration laws? That the United States has no right to police its own borders the way every other country in this hemisphere does?

I'm not feeling that higher principle.

Good article. It's too bad that city chose not to enact that resolution. We cannot have people choosing which laws to follow and which to break, knowing no one will hold them accountable for those they choose to break.

What needs to be stated is the lack of will by the U.S. government to enforce the immigration laws of OUR COUNTRY. We the people of the United States will not tolerate this indefinitely. We are very close to an insurrection of progressive degrees. Last summer we used the phone to communicate our outrage at amnesty. If a small hammer doesn't work maybe a bigger hammer is needed! Given the state of the economy and seeing other states, most notably Arizona and Oklahoma taking action against this illegal alien invasion. The patience of the American people may come to an end sooner rather than later. "When government fails to act in the interest of its citizens you have left the citizenry to their own devices. People have the right to protect themselves and their property". ENFORCE THE LAW!
