Sorry. Only idiots will insist that the correct pronunciation of Taneytown is "Tawny Town." This is similar to the rather vapid arrogance of those West Virginians who insist that Canaan Valley be pronounced: "Ka Nain," rather than the proper "kainen."
Apparently idiocy like this, humored by those who are supposed to teach little children proper pronunciation, allows sores like "Tawneytown" and "Ka Nain" to fester. But Particularly insulting is the attempt to portray those who pronounce each name correctly as "ignorant outsiders."
If YOU want to be obviously stupid to properly educated individuals, that's your right. But don't impugn the intelligence of actually educated folk.

When George Washington stayed in Taneytown, he wrote about it in his diary. He spelled it Tawney Town, so way back then we pronounced it the same way.

The only fool here is YOU. Why dont you do some research on Taneytown and Canaan before blowing off your stupid mouth calling people Idiots? You forgot another town in WV called Job, but the local folks call it Jobe. Who cares? Are you the pronounciation police? Idiot.
