Our prayers are with the Darden family and with Kenneth Smith. The Lutz/Land O Lakes/Wesley Chapel communities have recently endured the untimely loss of so many of our teenagers. Perhaps we need to think about changing the driving laws to protect our children.

this car recklessly passed us on Collier Parkway. We slowed down to give them some distance. Next thing we know after we made a left at the stop sign onto Hale Rd, we saw the Bronco overturned in the ditch. We called 911 and assessed the situation to try to help the boys. They were trapped, and there was nothing we could do. The fire dept arrived and began to manage the situation.

I want to comment on that .. annonymous... i wish there was something you could have done, but its not your responsibility though. Kids these days know what the dangers are to driving like maniacs. He was just probably showing off to his friend.... yeh.. showing him how to die early !... my prayers go out to the family. My cousin did the same thing in Tenn. Though, needless to say,.. a girl was killed in the wreck. he wasnt, but got serious damage due to it. I feel for you all,.. Darden family.

These Kids go to school with mine. This is a very sad thing. My Daughter (17) told me several days ago that she and her friends think I am "over the top" protective. Well maybe but I think I will keep it that way! They are NOT ALLOWED anyone other than family in the car..ever..tough maybe?? One of my teens has been grounded most of the summer and can not go anywhere (parties..get togethers) with out adult supervision because she broke the rules by attending a party and drinking. I dont really care she is a senior and will miss out on some stuff now.
Am I too tough... I let you know in a few years.
Until then I will continue to be a PARENT not a Friend.

When I was younger, I felt my parents were over the top. I was not allowed to drive with friends in the car at all, anytime. I was able to drive my brother and our carpool 'carmate' to school and back... that was it. I thought it was over the top, but now that I am a parent I know it was not. It's a distraction to have friends in there and it's an added danger. As a parent, I do not see why a parent would let their teen in a car with a teen driver! I do not look forward to those days... I will be in a constant state of panic!

My heart and prayers go out to the families. I am so very heartbroken and sorry for your loss. May God send you comfort through this difficult time.

your children WILL thank you when they are grown. I am a parent that was always in my girl lives and I was oh so very tough on them and NOE they are 33 and 30( the 30 yrs old are twins) and they tell me all the tiem that they thank God i was in their face and not let them do some of the things the other kids were doing. The bible tells us we have a great job in rasising our children and we must take it seriously. Why we we allow something bad to happen to a gift that God has given us. I say to ALL OF THOSE PARENTS WHO WANT THEIR CHILDREN TO LIKE THEM AND TO BE THERE FRIEND, GET TOUGH AND I PROMISE YOU THEY WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND and THEY WILL LOVE YOU FOR BEING THERE TO HELP MAKE TOUGH DECISIONS.

Greg will be missed he was truly like another son to me and my family. He was constantly making Todd and I laugh our tails off. This is a wake up call teenagers you are not untouchable. One dumb decision could effect you or someone dear to you for the rest of your life. This is three vitims in one month (deaths or close to deaths) caused by some one being a complete idiot!!I think you are about to see the judical system dropping the hammer on these careless individuals!!

this is just to many kids who have died from being a KID-- You teens are not invinceable, we have rules for a reason. Our kids learn from our actions. 70mph on 41, 60 on Collier 55 on Hale is daily rush hour traffic not by teens. Be an example and drive under posted the speed LIMIT. Parents moniter your kids driving. Its not cool to be dead or Kill someone.

Suicide, drownings, overdose, your children need help Funerals suck RIP my Land o Lakes Chilren - Pat, Krista, Sam, Crystal, Tyler, Pablo, Mechelle, Hope, Gilby, Thomas and Greg

My Prayers are with your families. Kenny we hope to see you play football real soon.

DJ I agree with you. I hope this will be a wake up call for teenagers. I know most of us thought we were invincible at that age and adults could not convince us otherwise but fortunately many of us never had any of my friends or classmates die because of it. I hope there will be counselors available at school to help these kids continue to cope with these tragedies.

Pat, Zoe, Krista, Sam, Crystal, Tyler, Pablo, Mechelle, Hope, Gilby, Thomas, and Greg. You are loved and missed.

It was a Bronco, not a SUV.
That's not the point here..........
Ensynoptic wrote:
An SUV flipped? How could that have possibly happened? Has anyone ever heard of such a thing happening - more than, say, 30-40 thousand times, that is?
Guess what, America! In your breathless ignorance you've been duped again. The whole SUV fad is a MARKETING phenomenon! SUV's are NOT better than station wagons. SUV's are TOPHEAVY, they roll/flip and kill people! By the tens of thousands, okay? We go through this wailing several times a week and nothing changes. Sounds like insanity to me. Get rid of the damned TOPHEAVY, gasguzzling SUV's and you won't lose so many kids, both on the highways and in the Middle East.
P.S. Yes, you also need REAL driver education in this country, along with alot more discipline in vehicle access.
