I heard from a friend of mine that HIS friend almost sued the Tamaqua Area School District for religious persecution...apparently it involved the 2009 baccalaureate, and the ACLU got involved? What is this?

How does one "almost sue"?

he said the district gave into demands at the last minute or something, but he wasn't exactly sure. all he knew for sure was that it involved baccalaureate and the ACLU was involved.

What demands?

Again, how does one "almost sue"?

i don't know, i don't even go to tamaqua, and i don't know who was even involved. but by almost sue i mean like...he had a lawyer, was on the verge of the lawsuit, and the school did something to make it right, I guess. I just wanted to know if any tamaqua folks knew what was going on?

why wouldn't one attend baccalaureate. It is one of the proudest religious experiences.

i didn't go to mine. i'm not christian if you're not christian you don't go.

Why? you do not have to be christian to go, you go to respect and honor your school in front of the town and community.

right, but it's a christian ceremony in a christian church. i don't believe in christianity, so i don't go to church. if you want to, that's all your business. i don't. please respect that. i don't demand to know why you go to church; don't demand to know why i don't.

Would it be better to stand in a pentagram and celebrate a major life achievement. Either way it is important to gain public Acknowledgment for what the young brilliant minds of America have acheived

right, but it's also important to respect all religions, not just christianity. i'm not a satanist; not sure where the pentagram remark came from. they do respect the major life achievements...it's called graduation. it's a secular and beautiful ceremony. a baccalaureate is a nice NONCOMPULSORY way to celebrate it FOR CHRISTIANS but not for everyone.

it's not really your business what anyone does, religiously speaking, except for yourself. why can't people understand that?

I just have a quick question. Did you give or receive any christmas gifts. Plus theoretically speaking this topic seems a little more personal then a story about a friend.

it IS personal in a way, because my school gave me a hard time about not going (i was treasurer of my senior class) and now you're giving me a hard time about not going over a year after the fact, when you dont even know me. plus, yes i got christmas gifts from my christian relatives and friends. i did give out gifts to commemorate the winter solstice, too, on dec 21. but i give gifts all year round...i dont confine it to one specific season. thats foolish. be decent constantly, and for humanity, not for an invisible god.

Yes exactly you gave gifts to your christian friends, so why couldn't you give the gift of class treasurer of your senior class and go to their christian based ceremony. After all gift giving is a ceremony of a christmas as is baccalaureate to graduation. Plus if this was almost a law suit and they met the demands of the individual, I am assuming it wads being met that it would privatly be solved. So I beleive I will contact the h.s. and notify them about the breach of a binding legal agreement.

This began as an informative thing with a lawsuit that really didn't mean much. Now we have a Christian on their high horse who's going to call the distract about a breach. What in the world is the point of all of this?
What exactly is the problem?
Scotty, beam me up real quick.

also legally a religious event cant be organized by a public school, so "my class's baccalaureate" wasn't my class's. it was a church that happened to be advertising to my class to come and listen to their minister talk and then put money in their collection plate.

Well I shall pray for you because you chose a path that will never lead you to righteousness. It is people like you that will bring the end of days into my life time.
