It is awful that I have packed my children and our supplies up for the 3rd time and drove in from West Penn only to find the Bungalow CLOSED!

I feel sorry for my kids. I work and can't get them in any sooner. Imagine what it is like for them when I pull up and the pool is closed?

They aren't supposed to close until 7pm anyway.

It is HOT outside.

WHO is in charge of this place? Why do they keep closing on HOT days?

When I am there, it kills me to see the lifeguards counting as soon as somebody gets out of the pool so the swimmer number is low. Then they blow the whistles and say WE ARE CLOSING! Not enough people in the pool! How lazy can you be? Sit there and get paid. It is all you have to do.

Why even have hours posted? Some people work and can't get up there until 6pm. Some people want to do laps at 6pm.

STOP closing the Bungalow early!

This is beyond RIDICULOUS!

Inform me. What is the Bungalow? Believe it or not, I have lived here for over 2 decades and, apparently, there is a lot I do not know.
I gather this is a public swimming place. I also gather that managment is so lax that they don't have many rules for the guards.
Well, first, we need a rule as to what time the place closes and we STICK to it.
Guards should get no benefit from trying to keep the number of visitors low because the closing time will never change.
I'm sorry. I understand how you feel.

FIRST. the guards don't close the pool, EVER. Get your facts straight before opening your mouth. Read the rules and regulations before stepping out of your door. If you had, you'd know the pool hours are 11:30 am to 7:30 pm ( or it gets adjusted for lessons ) Management or in yesterdays case, Borough Council Member, Steve Tertel closed it. No one seems to know why. Didn't come from person who oversees the pool.
"Why " - you can just as easily go to Lehighton if you don't like it at the Bungalo.
Our guards, while a few stink do their jobs.
" sit there and get paid ". You try it. It's not just sitting there. It is caring and securing the water for people. Especially, for those who's parents don't go in the water and ask guards to watch their kids because they can't swim.
If you aren't happy, leave your name at the clerks window and we'll pass the hat to refund your money.
AND, if you aren't happy, call Kevin at the Borough Hall. Since you work daily and are off nights, you should join the Park Commission. Great group of women who could use input and fresh ideas.
Lastly, " Tired of it ". yes, it's the community pool. Come up and meet the regulars, we'd find you amusing. As stated above, there are rules. I think 3 sheets of them. Plus, rules are on a huge wooden board outside the guard shack as you come in. Do people read any of them. NO!
Have a great day.

Guard Parent-

Please accept my apolgies. I did sound horrible. Yes. There are a few very, very good guards. Infact, I often comment at how lucky we are to have such sweet girls that play with the children and interact with the adults. Happy, well mannered young ladies. You have to admit that there are some doozies.

I wrote that post in a state of anger. I had for the 3rd time this summer had to turn around after making the drive into Tamaqua only to find the pool closed.

Is it open today?(Monday?)

I accept your apology, but if you
( like most of us ) think some aren't doing their jobs, you need to step up and voice that ..Next, If I were coming up from West Penn, I'd call daily to see if it's open. Not one person was happy that the pool was closed yesterday. Foolish move on someone's part.

Another example of a council person that has no clue. I heard also that it was Steve Tertel who closed the pool. I've seen him prance around up there like he is someone. Looking for votes I guess, but looking like a horses a**. Just like several other council persons trying to run the town. They're voted in and after a short while they know more than the people that have been there for a long time. The pool was closed about two weeks ago after a heavy rain. The people that actually take care of it made that decision after a great effort to clean it up and open.

Wow!
I mean, wow!
That tone is not good.
No, she should not get the "take it or leave it" deal! If someone went to any other public establishment and someone gave them that deal, they'd be fired.
Maybe Mr. Tertel should say why he closed it. I suspect...that if this DID NOT come out of nowhere. I suspect there is more to the story.
I, also think you should let your guard child do their job without parental interference, just as I demanded from my parents when I was a young man.

It's gotten to the point where we have certain sects of people in Tamaqua who, basically, place the average citizen in the backseat, and tell them to "shut up" while the go about doing business their way.
This post is full of arrogance, which is what we have too much of.

I think i need to clear a few things up. Number 1, Steve Tertel did not close the pool. He nor any other member of the borough has any authority to close the pool, only the pool managers. Number 2, the current rule is that if there is bad weather at opening (such as rain like on Sunday) the pool will be closed for the remainder of the day. Other reasons why the pool may close is low capacity or chemical problems. At 5pm if there are less then 15 people in the pool area (not just swimming, in the entire area) then there is a 30 minute warning over the loudspeaker saying that the pool will be closing in 30 minutes. And #3, remember the bungalow is not the only place to swim nearby.

I believe certain Borough employees have the "Authority" to close the pool. Are any of the so called Managers licensed by the state to operate the pool?

I'm commenting on the statement about councilman Steve Tertel having been accused of closing the Bungalow on Sunday. He, as a councilman doesn't have the authority to close that pool. The pool manager on duty that day was the one who made that decision because of the inclement weather at pool opening time. Guard parent(and we know who you are) feel free to call Steve before you post an untruth on a website that is know for propagating trash.

Well, yes it does suck when the pool closes early or does not open at all. I have lived here all my life and grew up at the Bungalow and now am raising my children there. I can remember when I was a child, the pool never closed early, however if they did not open on time, they would open later in the day if weather permitted. Why close the pool for the whole day for an hour of rain or a CHANCE of rain?! There is also a chance it will NOT rain and be beautiful as was the case yesterday. The Bungalow is the only good thing this town has going for it...why not do all we can to keep it that way?

It's me! Guard parent.
" IF " I wrote of an untruth, then I apologize for it, but it was the information given to me by someone at the pool. So, adding to propagating trash, I was only the bearer of bad news, not the one who started it. And, as long as you seem to know me, stop by the spot I normally use tomorrow and we can discuss my wrong doings. Lambasting ( SP?) Steve wasn't my intention, it was sticking up for the guards who watch the water and keep all the patrons safe.

All pools must have a licensed operator, the Bungalo does, the High School, P.V. public and school pools do. I believe the Borough Manager has the license now. Rob Jones ( who still actually takes care of everything ) was the licensed operaror until a few years ago. I believe Kevin took the test because the Borough would not give Rob any extra money for being licensed. So he dropped it.

Simple question? Not trying to offend anyone or start a riot.
Why wouldn't the Borough compensate the man who took care of the pool so well? secondly, why would Mr. Steigerwalt take the test when he's never there? Is he going to rush up there in the event of a problem or just send Mr. Jones?
GUARD PARENT? did the person you invited up today show?

I worked at the pool for many years with my parents. They ran the pool for over 30 years.
