And you would know this how? What were the misc. citations for? Could have been driving without a child in a proper child safety seat. Isn't that justified. if they pull you over, any violation is fair game. Why should an OVI check point be different?
I think what he is saying is that out of the 26 citations given, the other 94 stops were an illegal detention with no P.C. I can see both sides of this. It is a good arguement for both sides.

What the CRAP! Over one-hundred people stopped and little misdemeanor charges. CMON Summit County and APD. Get real. Don't you have anything better to do besides harass citizens over petty stuff. That's how petty this City and State is. WOW! What BIGGG Arrests.
Well Concerned blackman. The police deal with numerous issues from parking violations to murder. Are you saying that the issue here isn't worth putting forth any effort. There are a lot of other issues to deal with. These few officers were dealing with these issues at this particular time.

Maybe they can set these DUI checkpoints at
banks, maybe the drive thru, since so many are being robbed. That
way they can get the robber and do any banking
they need to do! What a waste!

The checkpoint should be for driver's licenses. There are way too many people out there driving without valid licenses. If they don't have a valid license, then they usually don't have insurance. Guess who's paying for all of those driving without insurance?
And then what? Do you want checkpoint charlie to check for citizenship? Mandatory annual search of you house and person? PLEASE !

Of the eight arrests noted, wonder how many of those folks received multiple citations, like the OVI had an open container, dope & a pipe, no seatbelt & a suspended license making just ONE arrest account for 6 of those citations issued??
Which any half-way decent attorney can get a plea deal to dismiss most charges and reduce an OVI etc to reckless operation.
My opinion stands the checkpoints are an invasion of privacy, illegal s/s and a total waste of taxpayer dollars.
Gotta make those numbers look good.

Because to pull you over they have to have probable cause, something that is TOTALLY missing at a checkpoint. You're stopped simply because you are driving on that particular stretch of roadway at that particular time NOT because they saw something suspicious and pulled you over.

Three OVI busts? Hehe...out of all agencies involved in these checkpoints, I'd be willing to bet there were more than three off duty LEOs from those agencies driving above the legal limit.

I am sure happy to see that illegal searches are alive and well in Summit county...
That money would be much better suited by investing in better and safer public transportation. If people had other viable options to getting around while intoxicated, the number of OVI would decrease.
Viable options??? How about walking, a designated driver or calling a cab???

1. How many bars do you have within walking distance
2. No one wants to sit there all night while all his buddies party
3. Unless you are downtown where they hang out looking for fares, it is not convenient to call one; trust me this is what I currently do.
If the US invested in GOOD mass transit we would not have these problems.

we act as if 1. all drivers with a drink under their belt will cause an accident tongiht and 2. all accidents are caused by drunks. not true....drinking can often lead to poor driving performance which can cause an accident..but so can carelessness, stupidity etc. my point is the police cannot see your driving behaior when you are in line at a check point - only by driving the street can they see and stop bad drivers - drunk or sober

Well, if you review the research on DUI checkpoints, then the police would probably have made 10 arrests if they used targeted roving patrols making suspicion-based stops. Yet, somehow we stick to using these checkpoints, while many other states have stopped. Once again, the always late, and no longer great, State of Ohio brings up the rear.
