Linda, it's not just ladies who need to be observant out there. Men get mugged, beaten and killed every day too. Everyone needs to keep their wits about them and kudos to this woman for fighting him off!
Let's not spread fear and further the paternalist attitude that women have no right to go about their lives unchaperoned.
You ever notice that media reports about assault on a woman always seem to include the comment that she was alone. However, the reports about assault on men never do?

I agree, I refuse to walk in fear but If someone tries to attack me I am ready to defend myself. I also made sure that both of my daughters when they were young to take a defense class and they still do.

In the early seventies my mother who is deceased now was attack from behind. The person did not want my mother purse because she told him to have the purse. When my mother thought he wanted something else she beat the hell out him and scream like hell until everyone in the neighborhood heard her and they all came out to help her. The men in the area caught up with him a beat the hell out of him again until the cops came. I grew up on the North East side of town by Spingarn High School. People talk bad about North East or DC but if a woman is attack you better hope the cops get there first before the people in the area get to them.

I was thinking the same thing myself! And for the people asking why race matters, in this case it does matter. They are still looking for the perp and are asking for help from the public. Anything they can tell the public to help find the guy is necessary and that includes race. It's not about white/black/hispanic/ or Asian or whatever. It's about a description to locate a dangerous criminal.(except again, I saw nothing about race until the poster started griping about it)

RE the comments about race; there were some early comments on this story which were extremely racist in nature; that is what I was commenting on. It looks like they were deleted. I didn't report 'em but apparently someone did, or the moderator took them out. Small loss.

His name is Richard Manning Miller and he lives were this occurred.....

That joker should be tied down and the women that got beat by the guy should be allowed to beat him until he dies!
If she doesn't have the guts then some police officer with a black mask to protect his or her identity should beat him until he dies for her. Then it will be only fair and just! I don't want hard working peoples tax dollars being wasted on keeping assholes like this guy in jail forever in some relatively comfortable lifestyle. It is just redicuous.
