Police release footage of fatal traffic stop

Police released dash cam video from a traffic stop in Mountainair that led to a deadly crash.

I personally think charging the chief is ridiculous okay i understand and give condonlences for the grandmother and child's death, but come on people! 6 intersections on a blown tire, i could see if the chief shot the tire then it happened right after but it wasnt like that..things happen and the chief had a point....it partially the communities fault for whomever was harboring this fugitive enabling for this event to happen...

For one, I totally agree with "Disgusted" above... Second of all, why would you show the video of these people losing their lives? After all the other drama surrounding this unfortunate event, way to pour salt in the wound KOB! These types of videos should be left to the tabloid shows on the cable networks or youtube for people who get off on this kind of thing.... Im Just Saying...

Didn't one citizen publicly claim that he was the one that chased and held down the Paul Sanchez until Ed showed up? Wonder if he ever thought they would release the video and expose his exaggeration of the truth.

As you can see, very distinctly on the tape, the Chief shot the tire as the truck started to flee. I guess I don't understand your statement:

The tire being shot...ONE tire..not "tires"...did not factor in the crash. The subject did not "lose control" and crash...he crashed into the victims' car...then into the residence. The chief did precisely as he was trained...professionally and with discipline.

OK the chief probably shoudn't have said beat you up, but other than that the chief did what he should have done. This creep took off. KOB's reporter stated that maybe he didn't understand the chiefs command, I guess he didn't understand his tire being shot out either.
Personally I didn't care for KOB's report on this issue. Come on now, he was dragged back? The man was not dragged back but walked back. Maybe this could have been avoided if the chief had just shot him instead of a tire.

Look at KOAT's video it DOES show that guy Pat holding the fugitive. And you all have to understand that ALL of these news broadcaster say what they want to and edit what they think people want to see and from my understanding this very few that dont support the chief think hes at fault and the rest are upset at him for past things he has done and also about the other officer quiting on the job he did that at the last meeting when the towns people wanted the chief out. I honestly think that the news and the rest of Mountainair need to stop with all this everyone is just making matters worse for the family dont you all think they want to have some time to process all that has happened? did the news even ask the family if they wanted to show the tape? How disrespectful!

The other thing to remember is that the chief, while he is a chief, only has a 3-person department. I would think that's very stressful in situations like this, where any other chief could call in serious backup. The whole thing is really quite sad, and the fault lays at the feet of the idiot wanted for kidnapping who sped away and rammed the family.

Bad call from the Chief. "Why" would he threaten the driver: "I put you on the ground and then I will beat you up!" Anyone not only this person wanted on warrants would of sped off. Threats of beating someone up only fuels the problem, thus a attempted get-away. Police chief only has one option if the DA indicts him for threatening a citizen, be it Mr. Sanchez or anyone else. Bully tactics never work for long. This chief should resign his badge and gun to the Mayor. Nobody never said he did not hold him up! Mr. Ortiz Said He tackled the man and Had him on the ground! I believe his exact word were as follows: "I Tackled Mr. Sanchez and Was Holding him on the ground then out of Nowhere there comes gravel flying and Ed has his Gun pulled on me and Sanchez, I told ED its ok put your gun back he on the ground and Ed did not" This is the EXAGGERATION of truth We towns people are talking about!

So Paul at first charging the vehicle, that was the first clue... As anyone could tell, everything coming out of his mouth was a lie, name, where he was from, I mean everything was a lie... Then the Chief told him to get out of the vehicle, that he was going to be placed into handcuffs... OR HE WAS GOING TO BE PULLED OUT OF THE VEHICLE... the actions were completely reasonable, has anyone been dealt with by APD or State Police... The Chief was perfectly reasonable, and within his duty to threaten physical force if the subject didn't comply...
