Gas prices skyrocket with no end in sight

There are 8 comments on the Marin Independent Journal story from Jun 10, 2008, titled Gas prices skyrocket with no end in sight. In it, Marin Independent Journal reports that:

A month ago, drivers were wondering when the price of a gallon of regular gasoline would hit $4. It didn't take long, and now that they are paying 50 cents more - an average of $4.40 in San Rafael - $5 is just ...

Trade Deficit the reason

The reason gas prices are so high is the competition we are now seeing as a result of sending *all* our manufacturing to China. Thanks to Wal-Mart and the pursuit of the cheap labor offered by China, we give all our money overseas, which leaves our coffers and doesn't return. What does China do with that money? Invest in its infrastructure, hire people to improve their society, and buy oil to power their burgeoning economy. Since Americans refuse to pay Americans to make our goods, we are all poorer as a result.
Josef Stalin once said "Never fear the capitalist, for he will sell us the bullets to kill him with." We are watching it happen, only on a slower, economic level.
We need to rebuild American Manufacturing. Buy (recycled) biofuels from American sources rather than foreign ones. Invest in your country and empower your community. Stop giving your money to foreign oil sources and foreign manufacturers. And stop selling out your country by outsourcing labor to cheap companies. Otherwise things can only get worse.
just wait

Canada is up to 5.50 and their dollar is stronger, The EU has been at that or higher for a long time. We are just adjusting to the norm, oh and the country is in the toilet.

On another note, yes don't support China and the OPEC members, buy American or at least try.

I am visiting in New Jersey as I write this and the cost of regular gasoline here is $3.89. When I left Marin on Monday the 9th from San Rafael, Union 76 (formerly Vallero) was at $4.29 (I'm pretty sure). Now why is it that gasoline is different from State to State? Forget other countries! They pay higher prices due to a host of reasons, one being taxes that their government places on fuel, among other things.

I agree so much with Trade Deficit the reason. He or she is so right on!!!

What I want to see is one day a month called "National Do Not Fill Up" Day to scream our frustration and show our unity as a country, not just like sheep doing nothing while the 5 biggest oil companies laugh at Congress and say "too bad" it's supply and demand and laugh all the way to the bank with their profits and huge salaries and bonuses. That's what galls me is that they are doing everything in their power to destroy. And yes, make fuel efficient cars more affordable and available NOW!!!

Regional differences in pricing is related to different blends needed in California. "No fill up day" is useless. Would you lower prices if you knew customers were just going to come back tomorrow?

"It makes me not want to be American", Neve said...

Right, because cheap gas is in our constitution.

If the only thing keeping you a US citizen is cheap gas, then perhaps you should defect.

There are plenty of more important things you should consider for not wanting to be an American such as the Patriot Act, our invasion of a sovereign nation, rampant urban violence, no universal health care, etc., etc.

The American companies (Walmart, etc) claim they save us $2000 annually by shopping at their store. Problem is, Americans have to lose their manufacturing jobs to China/India to save the $2000. I blame the consumer and retailers for wanting the stuff cheap. Well, we got it cheap, but like Trade Deficit said, we screwed ourselves. IMHO, America is on the decline. It's not a fast drop, but a gradual slow drop. In 10-20 years, America won't even be the same.

More Republicans want more land & the coast to be drilled for oil. They believe to produce more oil will make gas prices go down & will make Americans use less.
Well, 3 years ago President George Bush said at the State of the Union that Americans are addictive to gasoline.Basically, the Republicans is saying to Americans that "Here have more drugs or cocaine & Marijuana but you have to use less".
I think the Republicans & oil Company knew that Americans are stupid.Or maybe they were right.?
