I recently contacted the WestSide Recreation and Parks District to reserve a pavilion for an afternoon outing. What fun but what a shock I had. It was a typical hot day in Taft and in order to have "water privileges" at the park I would have to pay.$30.00 whether we used it for 1 hour or 4 plus a $50.00 deposit. I have never heard of a park charging. Our tax money funded the park. Our tax money goes towards all the upkeep and maintenence at the park. Our tax money pays to take care of the prisoners who pick up trash and mow. I am sure the water bill is pretty steep however $30.00 is too much. If there has to be a fee it should be only $10.00 at the most. If I call the water company and tell them I am going to fill up my pool they charge me a flat rate of $10.00 for anything under 35,000 gallons of water. I know we would not use up 35,000 gallons of water for a few hours of slip and slide. I'd like to know what others feel about the charges or if they even knew about it.
