Looking for a good place to hang out and meet people, without the "club" feel of Trexx. Anyone know of some other gay bars?

Rain is a small gay bar. More of a bar scene then a club scene

Rain has relocated to North Geddes Street. Does anyone here know of any other gay places besides Rain and Trexx?

Ryan's Someplace Else was one of Syracuses best bars ever too bad it closed. Why it closed I never heard.

OMG! This is going back many, many years. I think it closed down in the early 1990's. Everybody used to go there. I think the reason it closed down is because there was another bar called "Screamers" that opened up a few blocks away that took away all their business. Screamers is also long gone. I had good times at both of them. Ryan's was one of the first gay placed I had ever been to. I remember before they were on Pearl Steet they had moved from a location on Clinton Square. There was also another small place a block away called "Cissy's". Does anyone remember that bar. Those days are long gone, but they were such fun!

I also remember another bar that was mostly a social bar called the Bunk House.

I went to Ryan's Someplace Else back in 1987. I found
the people there very rude, and snooty, including the
bartenders, and the waiters! One time I
showed up there in a white t-shirt & jeans, and this
nasty fag hag comes up to me and says "Didn't I see
you at the Bunk House?",then she,and the deejay that
worked there at the time started laughing at me.
Horrible place!

LOL truth be told he wanted to have a rod up his booty.. and from what I here he is hung like a frigin horse.. Those were the days.. it was spring of 1994 actually had I known he was gonna play for the NFL I would have let him nail my booty too!

many of the football players actually hung out there.. and Lots of basket ball players as well There was NO other place for them to pick up men discretely There was No real internet to speak of and the sleazy places that were there nobody went to them.. Ryans was a not at all sleazy, and the laurel tree was the lesbian bar I remember it being like an old wooden Victorian house turned into a nightclub.. what fun great music and the women were super friendly then there was candys restaurant small intimate place with great .. no really great food I guess not much is going on in that town lately from what Ive heard but it's a different time and those days are long gone.

I use to go to screamers after hours.
I wanted to know how to get some of the music from that time period. Maybe talk to the DJ from that time. lvsbikers on bear411

Check the Dance charts around the time you went there (month/year).
It could give you some idea on how to find those dance songs.

Mr. T's was there for a long time as well as The Pub (The Continental Room in Armory Square). Ryan's had great drag shows on Sunday at midnight. It got packed! I used to go there from 88-93 when Syracuse had other bars such as the others mentioned above. I also went to The Bunkhouse once or twice around 1983ish.
It's a shame we need to be reminded of the gay haters out there. Take strength and support you local gay community as best you can. Fight for each other and show your presence. When I go home to visit, I'd be nice to support a gay establishment and be among my own people.

Ryans was one of the nicest bars I have ever been in. I had many good times there back in the 80's when I lived on Onondaga St.

My father, Jim Ryan, owned Ryan's. We moved to SarAsota in 1977 and he opened another Ryan's here. It closed after he passed in1986.
