There has been organized crime in Syracuse and the surrounding area since the 1920's. Just look under the rocks around the city and you can see it. Even if you don't want to admit it, it's there.

When the family ran the streets there was no crime, the cops were 1 to 5,000 people. You go to Solvay you better be Irish and Italian, you go to the North Side you were Italian, German. You go to the west end you were Polish. The boys had it covered, until Sgt Sardiano old man and the Canteen or what ever you call his Father’s club on the South side got busted for serving the girls he had working there TEA out of a Liquor bottle, when he was charging liquor pricing. So his sons went on a ramp page and said were going to close this town DOWN. From the Broadway Tavern on Wolf Street to Parkay to Brown jug you name IT THAT HOOKED NOSE COP SHUT DOWN Syracuse New York AND THAT WAS THE START OF WHAT IT IS TODAY. Nothing, a hole in the middle of central New York. Were at one time had big, big conventions located 3 hours from NYC. Central for every one to travel and that Son of a bitch who had no brains and a big nose ran the city into the ground.
Organized crime UN herd of, doing the right thing you bet. Mr. Lee Alexander ran the business, so what people appreciated what he contributed to the city and showed their appreciation. When Lee was in office there was Money in that town.
Anthony Henneger helped a lot of WWII vets out when they came back he held jobs for them at New Process Gear (Always to be Chrysler)
I know he handed my dad $300.00 dollars for us to get back on our feet. Seeing my dad only had one leg. And retired from CHRYSLER after 40 years.
Unheard of today. WHY: you the people lost control. You were better off when the boys took care of business.
And boom before you know it ST Joseph’s is bringing back the Vietnam people: They forgot who helped build that hospital. Destroyed the north side ran it into the ground. WHAT were they thinking: When in Rome do has the Romans do? Crap, in the streets that bring habits into USA and ST Joseph for got about the follow through.

What else do you want to know? The Hotel Syracuse: The Yates Hotel was Friday7 night standing room only. All walks of life from a machine operator to the Mayor of Syracuse.
When people help people:
Onondaga Lake. SPRING FEED. BUT that lousy Solvay process dumped into that lake for 30 years and ruined it. Shut down the factory and walked away with out a hand slap. And today you want to put down Bob Congeal: He needs a medal. You Idiots cannot see past the city council it's about ego not Syracuse. When are you going to TAKE BACK YOUR TOWN?

While I was working as a Family worker a young man told me not to be on his street at night because of the gang activity. I believe the kid, he is the head of a gang involved in drug traffic. Are there gangs in Syracuse? Wake up Syracuse. You have a big problem. Last month another youth was gunned down while standing in a crowd.

The city of Syracuse has always had close connections to the Italian-American mafia. The Genovese family is the dominating family in the area and they are still very active in the region. While areas around South Selina St and Genessee St are becoming very "dark", there are still large neighborhoods that are Italian and within these neighborhoods there is a certain code of conduct that is followed by locals... You don't speak to anyone about family matters. It's that simple. Family matters stay within the family. The mafia will always live deep within Syracuse, and the rest of the world for that matter, and nothing is going to change that. It's better if you just don't ask questions.

The true crime "family", Mafia, if you will, only kill each other for the most part. Back in the 1970's a NUN was raped in NY and the "family" found and killed the rapist before the police got him. I really like that. Being Italian, with a notoriously well known Mafia maiden name, has made some people afraid of me but truth be told, I am married to a Cop and the only gun I ever held was his Police Issued gun.
I never was afraid of the "Mafia" Don't cross them and there is no problem.

Syracuse officials and law enforcement were totally aware of George Bedegian and his little wanna-be crew for decades. Forget about the little local spots, such as Antonio's, Francesca's, and, of course, Alpine. "Georgie" ran a gambling ring that extended far beyond Onondaga County. I remember connecting two of my SU fraternity brothers with his "cronies" to take bets right out the the damn frat house. He made a ton of money on that, which soon branched out to other colleges and universities from Buffalo to Boston. And envelopes full of cash were passed back and forth in public bars and restaurants all over these towns and cities on a weekly basis.

I had a couple italians in suits try to beat my ass outside of a bar once for smoking weed, luckily I had a friend with me. This was a while back but we kicked their ass, organized crime was a joke in Syracuse back then and it's a joke still now. Don't fuck with the bars though, people still hold lot's of guns and grudges there.

Of course there's still organized crime in syracuse, about 10-12 years ago I was living with my grandfather for a while and the corbacios would always come around and hangout with my family and would bring there cars for my grandfather to do mechanic work on.

one, yes there is and probably has been organized crime in Syracuse and every where else in the world
two, there has been an italian mafia in Syracuse whether or not it's still there is a question that involves an insider and let me tell you none of them are going to come forward. as of now you have gangs to worry about and parts of the city you want to stay away from and if you go in them you shouldn't make eye contact with the wrong people. but yes the city has a history and if you're really interested in it all you have to do is look. that's how i'm learning. then again it helps when you're family used to be involved in the mafia and is still very well also looking for answers.
