Why on earth is this guy still licensed to drive a vehicle? And who is responsible for his NOT having been locked up long ago and his license not having been taken away? THAT person should be fired forthwith.

That person is Suffolk DA Thomas Spota. The SCPD recently instituted a policy that if you couldn't give a license or other identification proving who you were that verified that you had a license you would be arrested. Tom Spota praying to the gods of political correctness declared this racist and the policy has been halted. So for a recap, in Suffolk County you do not need to give a police officer a driver's license when stopped because you can't be arrested because that would be "racial profiling". When you tie that hands of the police to make arrests of unlicensed and suspended drivers tragedies like this are the result.

Old Brookville is in Nassau County, what does the Suffolk DA have anything to do with this? Think before you voice your opinion.

Please send him to Jail, and keep him away from my friends and Family. I am afraid to drive my car in Long Island, On the North Shore you have the Plastic Faces driving their 7 series BMW running everything over in their path and on the south shore you have the Hispanic Faces in their low riders weaving through lanes and traffic with their uninspected 20 year vehicles. Lond Island is not a place for Hard working Parents to raise a family anymore, all of our kids will leave hear the second they get a change, oh yeah your school tax is probably going up another 10% this year no matter where you live. They will tell you 5% or 6% however trust me when you get your bill the increase will be much higher.Leave this place before the taxes and cost of living become so high every hose on your block become a rental and you can not pull the equity out of your home.

First of all...this is a terrible, tragic, repulsive, and very sad story and I think two lessons can be learned.

1. Those who are unfit to drive on the roads and who clearly identify themselves to be unfit (multiple occasions of excessive speeding, dangerous driving, road rage, etc...etc...) should be arrested and FINED HEAVILY. I am talking maybe a $100,000 fine...and if you can't pay it, then your car and other possesions are taken, and if you still cannot pay, you go to jail, end of story. We have to start REALLY throwing the book at those who have no respect for our roadways and just maybe then, our roads will become safer. The fact that this scum bag had such an extensive past history just goes to show that our wishy washy laws and lawnakers do NOTHING to prevent history from repeating itself (with innocent lives subsequently being killed)

2. I find it interesting that the vehicle was a Range Rover. Umm....the last time I was on Long Island (or pretty much anywhere in the NY metro area), I found all of the roads to be well paved. We dont live in the jungle, in a safari, and really, what is the need for a RANGE ROVER or any other these other ungodly large 4 wheel drive utility vehicles??? To drive to the supermarket to buy groceries? These huge and excessively heavy vehicles are a menace to us all, and in my opinion, they really serve no purpose in the NY metro area other than to guzzle gas and to pose a danger to all of us out there in our smaller cars.

What a tragedy. This intersection and the road before it are in desparate need of more enforcement. People drive down Glen Cove Road at breakneck speeds, in SUV's, in subcompact cars, in sedans, in buses, etc. Firstly remember cars don't kill, people driving them do. Secondly, it doesn't matter what type of vehicle you are driving, when you crash into another car at a high rate of speed, major injury or death will occur. Thirdly, unfortunately even if your license is suspended, revoked, etc. unless you have a conscience or are stopped, who is going to halt you from driving. Some revisions are needed so that this is not a fact. Finally, look at yourselves. Have you ever called (w/headphone) the Police Dept.when you see a vehicle driving erratically? Have you ever called (w/headphone) the Highway Patrol while on the LIE and you see a truck or other vehcile driving erratically. Have you ever called (w/headphone) the State Police while driving on the SSP, NSP, Meadowbrook, etc. All you need to do is dial 911.
My prayers go out to those families affected and may peace be with them in their time of loss.

i know toni b. i went to school with her,.she was a classy brilliant woman. she helped the hearing impaired community. she was a wife, mother and friend. the driver who caused this should be punished. how many violations do you need before your license is taken away.

I'm in complete agreement with you Adam. There's no need for those vehicles on our roads. It's purely the advertising persuasion of the car makers. How ridiculous are the commercials that make the "fantasy driving effects" followed by microscopic print that says " professional driver on a closed course." I say shame on the advertisers and the TV shows that pay to show them. Once again....another no-brainer and a senseless tragedy.

Most likely, there are people close to this moron who knew he had no license and looked the other way when he jumped in a car (probably registered to them and not him). If they were afraid to confront him to his face, they should have called the Glen Cove police and told them an unlicensed driver just took off in a car and should be stopped (anonymous citizenís complaint). Either way, I would hire the best lawyer and start meticulously going over this idiotís footsteps and find out who in his life knew he had this highly irresponsible (at best) driving record and start holding them accountable, too. Quite possibly, there are other people who can be held accountable for letting this jerk continue to drive. I for one will pay attention to the judge assigned to his case to see if Mommy, Daddy or whoeverís money gets him off!

While this is NOT the forum for who is right or wrong in the type of vehicle they choose, I must reply. Why is it OK to have the manufacturers, etc. build cars that are nothing more than a coffin on wheels? Without naming brands, there is a foreign car M-Z-A, M-A-A car that is barely visible while driving a regular sized car, what about the large trucks on the highways that don't even see this vehicle. Why is it OK to drive sub-compacts that look like the size of the cars in the circus and probably have similar safety measures?
We are all entitled to our choices.
Pray for those who were killed & injured and their respective families.

I knew Toni through out our high school years, and her first marriage to my life long frined Michael.
I will always remember her great smile, her wonderful humor, and an intelligence that never ceased to amaze me.
She was a wonderful person.
Although I haven't seen her in years this tragedy touches me deeply.
My heart goes out to her son and her husband.
I am extending my deepest, heartfelt condolences to them.

I agree w/your 3rd point of view.. "unless you have a conscience or are stopped, who is going to halt you from driving." i have my license suspended right now do I drive? nooo..for the last 3 months i've been taking the bus everywhere..i learned the lesson..and it don't matter what kind of car do you drive like somebody else mentioned it be4 the drivers are the responsibles not a suv, or any other type of car..hopefully i will have my license back soon and i will be driving like a human, and not like an animal the way i did it be4...i care about others now...i think if i can do it why not those others with similars situations....my opinon..
