Many long-time and newer residents of Syosset are or have become aware of the high incidents of cancers in the neighborhoods surrounding Cerro Wire, north of the LIE and west of So. Oyster Bay Rd.

At least two elementary schools (see google maps) border this site and several other schools in at least two districts are within a mile.

For years, neighbors of Cerro Wire, older adults and their kids who went to Robbins Lane or South Grove Elementary Schools have been dying of various forms of cancer. "Clusters" can not be scientifically proved but we know the rates in these neighborhoods to be alarmingly high.

I am trying to quantify data and would appreciate it greatly if you have information about any individuals or families who have suffered or who are dealing with cancer who LIVE WITHIN one mile of Cerro Wire.

We don't need names or addresses for this survey. We need streets with intersections and types of cancer, ages, that sort of data. Please email me phoenix at rainbowpuddle dot com

Thanks for your support.

Are you still looking into this Cerro Wire/cancer trend? We lived in Syosset from 1971-1988, attended Baylis Elementary and lived within a mile of the Cerro location. My sister developed breast cancer in 2002 at age38 and passed away age 45. Other family member also had breast cancer at age 41 . Also know of another baylis graduate who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Let me know if you are still rsearching this. I can assist.

I lived in the Willets Drive neighborhood behind the hospital from 1995 to 2008. Even though there was no history of nreast cancer in my family I was stricken and still suffer complications since 2007. At the time I knew of 4 other people on my block who were stricken within the same year. 1 being a 21 year old girl. Please let me know if you are still investigating. The cover of Newsday prompted my search.

Just from what I know personally and remotely,(not having lived on Sunbeam Rd. in Syosset since 1982) I am aware of 7 cases of pancreatic cancer just from houses #2 - 18 Sunbeam Rd. God only knows what else is going on down the block or around the corner!

Dear Mr. Muscat,

I understand that you have from consolidating information concerning cancer clusters around the old Cerro Wire plant on Robbins Lane, at the Syosset-Jericho border. I grew up in East Birchwood, attended Robbins Lane elementary school, and frequently played Hide 'n Seek, Army, and rode my Dirt Bike all over the Cerro grounds, as well as the enormous drainage sump on the opposite side of Robbins Lane (between Birchwood Park Drive and the LIE) that took run off from Cerro and the surrounding neighborhood.
It was identified as a Superfund site few years after I graduated Syosset high school.
Last year I was diagnosed with an aggressive lymphoma, Diffuse Large "B" Cell Lymphoma to be exact. I am not saying that my cancer related to my child to spend in and around that plant, but I'm not saying it isn't either. I I am not saying that my cancer related to my child to spend in and around that plant, but I'm not saying it isn't either. I'll never be able to link that together with any type of certainty. But I would like to know more.
Do you have, or you know of a website or Facebook page with more information on this subject?
Thank you for being such a strong advocate of this issue, for any information or direction with what you provide me.-DJ

My sister, who was six years older than me developed Hodgkins at the age of 12 and died in 1991. My aunt and cousin who lived next door -- also older, both died of rare cancers. I would like find out more information as well.

I grew up behind Mid Way Jewish center and not far from Robbins Lane . My sister at 51 got diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and passed away 10 months later . I have been wondering if she didn't get this from growing up in Syosset .... And I'm afraid if I'll get something ..

Hello ... We grew up behind midway Jewish center close to plain view shopping center .. My sister died last July from pancreatic cancer at age 51 .. She lived about 10 months after her diagnosis .. My friends brother who loved adjacent to LIE close to Robbins Lane he died also of pancreatic cancer at age 43 .. After reading what you wrote I'm completely convinced they died from Cerro Wire 😞 I was shocked when I read your post
