Barbara

I don't know who went over to Franklin General, but a couple of people I remember from the HGH/Imc medical records dept are Barbara Termine, Ellen Baumgartner Ronnie Schumann and April Lobozza... April, I know, went over to New Island Hospital like I did...I would love to hear from Barbara--don't know where she went. Ronnie Schumann retired, I think.

I spent 12 years as a Chief Inhalation Therapist . First we operated from a basement closet I was under the direction of Dr J Barcham of the department of Anesthesia so many great people helped us grow Drs, H Capen, Dr Lee who always called me "THE professor",Dr brody

As we grew both in volume and professionalism finally we had a multy roomed department blood gas lab sterilazation room we now formulated a respiratory procedure manual which was approved by the medical staff. We started doing blood gases which prior were done by the lab., placing endotracheal tubes all trach care including changing. Bird respiratory treatments for various conditions..Qualified Members in my dept. were certified by the hospital to place arterial lines and their care. Life saving volume ventilators, pulmonary function study,s all under our control thanks to one man Dr Leon Oxman, though several MD'S resented us for these advancements.
I now have just retired from a 30 year law enforcement carer as a Deputy Sheriff in Brevard County Florida where I still live.'
Thanks to all the folks who with good faith helped me and the department of Respiratory Therapy grow in that institution..as for those against me you also helped me become a stronger person, but you didn't get me.
God Bless all of you

It was said that Hempstead General Hospital was sued because of malpractices in the 1990's. The staff didn't know how to work with patients that had anuresyms, brain tumors, etc. I know for a fact they released a patient too soon! On January 10, 1996, a patient had an anuresyms while she was waiting for her ride to go home, she complained of a headache and passed out on the floor at Hemstead General Hospital. Originally, the patient was admitted into the hospital on Jan. 6, 1996 for swelling in the leg and frequent headaches. The staff couldn't figure it out that she was having an anuresyms plus the hospital wasn't equip with the technology to help this young lady... To make matters worst the nurse that was assigned to this patient gave her a blood transfusion knowing that the patient had swelling on the brain and caused the patient to have another blood vessel to burst in the brain and took the life of a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend! The hospital staff was covering it up the situation that happened on Thursday, January 18, 1996. They refused to released the medical records to the family and primary doctor (Dr. Joseph) in Roosevelt NY. He too has recommended that the patient should be moved to another hospital because Hemstead General Hospital isn't the best hospital for brain trauma... But it was too late :( The hospital had so many lawsuits against their facility; they had to shut it down!!! Do anyone know where I can retrieve Hemstead General Hospital medical records for love ones???

Sassy, yes I am aware that there is a Dr.Hackett in Colorado. Although his son isn't the one in question of being a MURDERER. If you would have put as much effort into reading all these post as you did to try and be "sassy" then maybe you wouldn't look like such an "_ass_"

Per the bankruptcy attorneys, the court ordered the records destroyed in November 2005.

Yeah, they also were negligent in the death of a friends husband in late 80's. They had many, lawsuits. Then they closed leaving residents in the area without a facility. They needed to clean house over there anyway. Also had people that I know of that worked as nurses.

I too worked at HGH; started out as a CNA, went to nursing school and returned and worked there 17yrs; I was very fortunate; I was hired to work 7-3 after nursing school with 2 yrs of city hospital experience; I was given the opportunity to work 7-3 when the norm was to be hired 11-7 as a new graduate but because I went to a great nursing school, King's County in Brooklyn, they hired me for 7-3; unfortunately I knew things would not be the same at a certain point in time..........I made two nurse friends who also moved to Florida (I did in 1989) and were friends for many years; you may remember them......Glenda Galluzzo (died a few yrs ago) and Alberta Matthews now 92!!!!

Hi John;
This is Patti Maye, Michael Maye's sister. We worked together at HGH in the 70's and 80's. I left in 1985 after the 1199 strike. Lost track of you. Glad to hear you had another wonderful career in Florida. My husband and I moved to Ohio 5 years ago to be close to our son. We have 2 lovely grandchildren. I am retiring from nursing on 6/12/14, can't wait! Unfortunately, we lost brother Michael to esophageal cancer 8 years ago. Miss him so much. It was so good to see your name and hear about you!

They opened as an Assisted Living Facility and it Loyola nice. HGH went bankrupt once, re-opened as Island Medical Center- then went bankrupt a 2nd time and closed down in July 2003. I worked there from 1969-2003 and met my Husband there.

I worked at HGH and Hempstead Park in the 80's...first as a nursing assistant, then as an RN. Ms Harriet Rosenthal was our Director of Nursing. I was a float as a nursing assistant and as an RN, then was staffed in ICU (always worked 11-7). I remember my first night working as the only nurse in the ER (New Year's Eve, no less!). I have wonderful memories of HGH...I learned SO MUCH from everyone there!
I worked at HPNH from 1969 to 1995, and then Medical Records in HGH until it closed in July of 2003. It had gone bankrupt and continued on as Island Medical Center, until it went bankrupt a second time and closed down. I remember Harriet Rosenman was the Director of Nursing for a time, and she was married to the Administrator Mr. Foreman, but they both left. They were there for the 1984 strike. I felt like my co-workers were a 2nd Family and have kept in contact with a few, but I heard that 2 particularly close friends have since passed on. I worked on 2 Southwest, then became a Unit Receptionist on 4 North. Then they eliminated all the UR's except one (Heather Mahaffey) and I went into MR. My Mom also worked there in Security (Ruth) under Matt Cashman, and I met and married a man who also worked there... married 29 yrs now. They called me "Ippie".

I am not sure of the new name, but it was renovated and re-opened as an Assisted Living Center. Looks nice from the outside. It was in pretty bad condition from being neglected over the years.

Anybody know what happened to HGH and the nursing home? It was located at 800 Front Street. Both me and my mother worked there,in fact my mom worked there for over 25 years as a nurse.First on 4 south in the hospital and later on 2 north in the nursing home.I worked in the engineering dept for a number of years. The chief engineer was Andrew Dina and I worked with guys like,James Dunphy,Casper Lewis,Al Wenesh,John Clavens,Jimmy Jones,Fred Paas,Vincent Murtha.Anybody know any of these people or why the place closed? I have alot of fond memories of working there. Can anyone relate to that?
I remember some of them. Jim Jones and a NA on 2 SW were a couple, Mr. Lewis' wife Mildred was a Ward Clerk, Jim Dunphy was a very nice person and liked an NA called "Angel". I remember Mr. Dina, but didn't know him much - seemed mad all the time. The hospital closed down after it went bankrupt a 2nd time, in July 2003. Was your Mother Mrs. Rhodes on 2 North? Didn't she work with Mrs. Kief? I worked on 2 SW with Mrs. Anselmo and Mrs. Scotto back then. They called me "Ippie". My Mom later worked in Security with Matt Cashman, and I met my Husband who also worked there ... married 29 years now.
