You are talking about speaking and writing properly, but yet you are not doing it. That is too funny! You hold as advanced a degree? Not proper English at all..get a grip!

I am not above admitting that I made a mistake but I have read what I posted several times now and see nothing. perhaps its not my writing skill but your reading skills.

I think he was referring to your statement " I hold as advanced a degree as one can hold...and I use it at my job every day."
Since I took time to reply, I myself am curious what you are talking about.

So here is my gripe. These people are on here bitching about the disrespect that modern youth show. I have absolutely no issue with them taking offense to that because today's youth are little pricks. However, if someone is going to rip into parents about how they raise their children they should be able to write our language at a level above the children whom they are complaining about.
As far as my job is concerned, I hold as advanced a degree as one can hold...and I use it at my job every day.
My parents worked their asses off and were not around nearly as much as I would have liked. if I were so inclined I would have ended up a little delinquent as well. The difference is that I had the intelligence to know what was acceptable or not acceptable.
When people cannot even teach their children how to speak or write, what chance do they have?
Here is a tip. when there is a little red, squiggly line under the word you just typed, that means you spelled it wrong. Just put the little arrow on that word and right click. there will be a list of the words that you may have wanted to use with the correct spelling.
I for one agree completely with you and support you. I am tired of seeing not only here on Topix but nearly everywhere these days the lack of respect for our own spoken and written language. Between instant messaging, e-mail, text messaging and the internet in general people have allowed their communication skills to degrade horribly. Gone are the days of the internet in it's infancy. I was around and was one of the contributors to the original form of the internet. I ran a local networked bulletin board system for years back in the early eighties. When it first started from those "BBSs" the internet was a place for intellectuals and at least average people to communicate and exchange ideas, information and resources.

Now the internet has become a haven for people who have no means of self-expression other than to follow the footsteps of those who smear and defame others with language no better than that of those they smear.

If you want people to take your complaints and problems seriously at least have the sense to make your complaint legible and intelligent. Using internet slang such as "u, ur, 4, lol and such" is a sure way to get most people who actually could help to ignore you at best, or belittle you at worst.

I will tell you that I agree with some of your concerns but as others have pointed out you need to be a little less generalized in this blanket statement of yours. Not all parents in Camden are to blame for the problems of these youths. My children are all teenaged and none of them are out doing the things you describe. In fact my younger son recently stopped two young men from attempting to break into our garage in the middle of the night. I won't tell you what precisely happened as too many details might give away who my son is and I have no desire to become embroiled in good-ol-boy vengeance any more than I already have had to with the would be thieves and their parents.

I wouldn't let it worry you. Your statement "as advanced a degree" is grammatically correct, as you already are aware.

*grammar Nazis- no apostrophe needed. There is no possession. How about you thank them for teaching you something useful and not tell other people what to do?
