I agree alan that we should buy local and I do but your premise that is what drove the jobs to China I know is wrong. The business of cheap labor and virtually non-existent pollution laws make the bottom line too appealing. Manufacturing companies that sell no products in wal-mart and never will still manufacture in China. Supposedly high end textiles that will never market is but one example.Weber grills Char broil products are not sold in Wal-Mart but guess where they are made. It is a combination of business people and consumers looking only at the bottom line.I tried to buy a pair of jeans Made in the USA at a store and not even Pendleton Jeans are made here.I have gone to a made in the USA web site but there were products listed their engineered in the USA but manufactured in China. It is up to the consumer to demand and buy USA manufactured products.
I agree with most of what you say but I've seen documentaries that show how Wal-mArt basically tells a vendor to get the price to X or we wont carry it then said vendor has to shop things out to China or other foreign countries to get the price down. In your Char broil example I'd say that they had to go to China to make a grill that could compete price wise with a similar grill made in China sold by Wal-Mart (previous to the also carrying the Char Broil brand which they didnt unti a couple of years ago. YES seek out USA brand whenever possible, I even buy European or Mexican products before I'll buy Chinese goods - lets not forget they are communists! Arent the "Blue Gusset" brand jeans made in Tennessee still? Heres a link, I'd check it out myself but my trucks running and I have to get to the dumps before they close:-)

Its not wal-mart but other big box stores such as home depot or lowes that sell these grills. The grills at wal-mart are cheaper but all are made in China. I do know what you say about wal-mart playing hard ball with vendors is true but it is also true that most users of vendors goods if they have the power of large sales does the same McDonalds for one. I do not believe wal-mart is responsible for everything being made in china if us Sheeple demanded Made in the USA products we would get them but at higher prices. Wal-Mart would even return to their old days when they pushed and even forced vendors to supply Made in the USA. It is up to the dumb or perhaps ignorant masses to cause this but I believe we will keep supporting the Chinese because their goods are cheaper. BUY LOCAL and when possible made in the USA and we would all be better off.

Wal-Mart works against America. It has low wages, wants most if not all it's employees to be part-time to avoid paying benefits and decent wages and, due to it's size, controls product lines for profit only, not quality. If sales drop, they will bail out, leaving communities with big box stores and a community that no longer has small stores they had before Wal-Mart, but what are you going to do, it's basically a monopoly, a "Robber Baron" type corporation!

I'm just glad that Obama was able to stop Bush from building this store!!

Wasn't Hillary Clinton on the Board of Wal-Mart at one time?

Yes. Sad to say I worked at a Wal-Mart for 6.5 yrs.Full time and over many departments. While Sam was still around it was o.k....but after he did all the ethics. In one managers meeting we all had to watch a video so that we would all be alble to say the same line....if asked questions about the children that died in the locked sweatshop.Sad, very sad. Alot of us would not do this. We instead told them to ask the manager.
