This is so sad. Why do things like this keep happening at schools? Next year will be 10 years since Columbine...hard to believe.

It happens because we are breeding lunatics with allowing anyone to own guns, carry guns. Gun control doesn't work because we don't really have any.

These are not criminals, they are people we have armed because we are in the business of selling guns in this country. And now the ones who don't have guns are the targets.

Say a big thank you to the gun industry who owns Washington.

I don't think gun control is so much the problem. If we eliminated every gun in this world there would still be killings. People kill people. I blame the society as a whole. In this world that we live in everything has moved so fast. We live at a super-sonic speed. With new regulations, new technologies and a greater demand on work performace we have to move fast just to survive. Well, in that process our focus in life have changed. our involvement with issues that occur in the family and with our children has dwindled to near nothing and that's where the trouble starts. we forget why we are moving so fast for and we leave alot of what truely matters behind. Home is where the heart is or so it used to be. We need to re-examine ourselves and our priorities and get back involved with our families and our children. Many of these most unfortunate incidences stem from some form of neglect within our own home. We must find a way to slow down, open our eyes and get back to being involved with what's going on in our families. Many of these tragic incidences are the last cry for help but by then, it's just to late. we need to get back to our morals and ethics within our own home and pay attention. Get involved. You never know what you may just prevent from happening

I agree that gun control is not the problem. Home is where I and my brother learned gun control from my father--a hunter who always had guns in the house with ammo in the hall closet. Not locked up, just put away. We learned that to touch those weapons without dad's permission would be the end of life as we knew it! Even toy guns were not exempt. If we couldn't handle toy guns properly, we'd never touch a real one! I raised my children that way, and now my grandchildren. I do not have guns in my house because the world has changed so much since my father's time, and it doesn't take much to make a mistake with one, and a split second is all it takes. But supervision and education is the answer for that question. These shooters who have been in the news lately are people who would have found SOME way to be so destructive, not because they had a gun, but because they had serious mental problems. I don't believe gun control would have made the difference.

Has it been 10 years since Columbine? Wow. It seems like it just happened.:(

No, things just ain't the same as they used to be. Sometimes that can be a good thing, but in this case - it can't be.

You would be scared to death to know what goes on at our local college campuses.. RIT specifically, and Security is constantly hiding their heads in the sand. With mommy and daddy paying 15, 20, 25K a year, NO WAY is the student EVER wrong! One phone call from deep pocket parents to the College Prez, and the student will be forgiven.

Puh-leez! Do we really need to know? Can't we guess what he would say?
No, things aren't the same as they used to be--I meant that kids today don't solve their problems with an a$$-kicking after school or learning how to "take it like a man" anymore. They solve problems with a gun held sideways like they saw in a movie that was so cool. They don't learn respect for anyone or anything, they've learned just the opposite-"Don't disrespect me or I'll blow you away!" We can blame television, Hollywood, video games, etc ad nauseum, but the final blame is on the people who raised these people and didn't give them the tools they need to live in this world without blowing everyone away!

Hmmm. I thought it already IS a crime to use guns wrongly! And I don't think anyone is fooled into thinking schools are safer now! Obviously not!

I don't think allowing "good" people to bring in guns is a good idea at all. The shooter in this case WAS, in all accounts, a "good student" revered and admired by all. Well folks - he snapped. Stopped taking meds, and nobody saw this coming. What then?

Allowing people to carry guns anywhere they please just isn't going to solve the problem and may even escalate it all the more!

He was on meds, the morning report is that he spent a year in a psych hospital, hmmm, AND he bought those guns legally! If the background checks are faulty, it needs to be addressed and made stricter! Now that more facts are coming out, EVERYONE could see this coming---same old story. I blame his doctors, his friends, the gun salesman, the police who do the background checks (at least here in this county they do), and anyone else who didn't want to get involved and raise a question!
