Assuming had he seen the truck, he wouldn't have pulled out

First of all it spelled stupid. If you lived that long, I hope you have enough sense to stay off the road yourself.

It appears that the truck driver pulled out in front of the elderly man and should be held accountable.

Oh wow - a witness??? You must be if you say "appears" because there was not nearly enough detail in the article to make such an assumption. But there is enough detail to know that he went under the trailer - which is back behind the tractor. And using a little common sense you would know that Tractor-trailers don't accelerate like Ferrari's, so that truck was presumably pulling out long before the car was near it, and the car should have had plenty of time to slow to let the entire tractor trailer pull out. Speculating fool.

Who cares? This happened nowhere near I95 on a road that is nothing like I95. Keep your ignorant dislike for truck-drivers to yourself.

Here we go again. The elderly should NOT be allowed to drive. Starting at 65 you should have to take a drivers test every year to keep your license. Luckily he didn't hurt/kill anyone.

Its a good thing he didnt kill anyone else. We should all be lucky that he is gone and the road's are safer again. He should not have been behind the wheel. He deserved to die since he was driving a car at 88. He knew he was too old!

I've been saying this for years. I wish some sort of law like this would be passed to keep them and us safe.

Who knows those truck drivers fly like crazy and maybe if he was going the speed limit the guy could have made it, assuming he was speeding.

My thoughts exactly. He was 88 and he was driving a nearly 10 year old Buick. No great loss there.
Quite frankly, some folks here will disagree, but his time was up. He was going to die soon anyway, right?
Be thankful only he died and not some younger innocent person.
Wow, how callous. Would you feel that way if this man happened to be your grandfather? Father? Uncle? Should we just start killing people once they hit 85? I mean, they would die soon anyway, right?

I have been saying that for years. We should start some kind of petition to keep these "age challenged" people off the roads. Please note I am being sacastic with the politically correct crap :)

The 88 year old gentleman was my very good friend . He was one of the nicest people I have ever known . The truck driver is also my friend and has 3 children a wife and a home that he supports . The ACCIDENT happened on a straight stretch of road with a slight bend in it . No street lights to light the road . The 88 year old driver was on his way home from AC after dropping his girl friend off at her home . THIS WAS AN ACCIDENT . This is also a part of Pa that has been neglected as far as road improvements go for decades . Many truck ACCIDENTS have happened on RT 209 probably more than 100 many fatal . Sometime Bad things happen to good people. THIS WAS AN ACCIDENT and a great deal of people that new the gentleman are very upset to the point of tears.

I am sorry, but an 88 year old man should NOT be driving and an 88 year old man definitely should NOT have a girl friend. He was 88. We know he very likely cannot safely drive but we know for SURE that he can't have a girl friend.

Knowing this now, I agree with the others that he probably was gonna die anyways, so what matter does it really make now.
