This started when Congress changed the holidays to become 3 day weekends. It's now too much trouble to recognize the men and women who have fallen to keep us free. Parades are being cancelled nationwide because nobody even knows what Memorial Day is about anymore. It annoys me no end when I see signs in stores saying "HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY"!

Nah, nobody wants to see a parade, they're all to busy at the Crossings!

Why didn't you put the reason they're not having parade?

The Monroe County Veterans Assoc. formed last year, replacing the disbanded United Vet Organization of Monroe County, which previously organized the annual parade..........
"We're not having the parade this year because of a lack of funding due to us being a new organization,"

The Monroe County Vet.Assoc. will observe Memorial Day on Sunday,May 27,with a 9:30 a.m.service at St.Paul's United Church of Christ on Upper Swiftwater Road in Swiftwater.........and then at 1p.m.observance at Courthouse Square in downtown Stroudsburg.

MCVA treasurer Joseph Clamper said the org. wasn't able to gain the necessary permits in time to have the parade.

I'm sure they would appreciate your contribution to keep the tradition alive!

Because I assume that most of my fellow posters can read?

Is there a reason the permit process could not be sped up?

You forgot to include McCool's comment.

"Personally, I feel Veterans Day lends itself to a parade, whereas Memorial Day should be a solemn event," said county Commissioner Suzanne McCool. "We will support whatever the veterans wish to do."

Thankfully she is in the minority.

Since my sons and my husband are all veterans and many of my ancestors died in the many wars this country fought, beginning with the very first ones, I will make a contribution. I didn't need you to tell me that. Its something as normal as breathing to me.

HOw can they read it if they don't subscribe to Poc.Record? See how easy it is to explain your first comment instead of posting something and letting it hang without explanation?

Same way I do. Simple. Wretched is a joke, with or without a subscription. It is helpful after being away for a few days, I can see what happened Saturday in today's 'breaking news' column.

Library copy? Free copies they give away in supermarkets while begging for readers? If they truly wanted subscribers, they would fire all the extremist lefties that work there.

Yes in the library or the hawkers in kinsleys. If they truly wanted readers, they would learn how to spell and write a complete story.
