I'm not a real big fan of Wal-mart but maybe they will bring the gas station in with them. I'm tired of getting gouged by high gas prices in Sweetwater, I buy all my gas from the Jiffy they always seem to have the lowest price. We need a Weigels real bad!!!

I just watched the video. I hope the Sweetwater mayor has a plan for the increase in traffic on that stretch of HWY. 11

Sweetwater is within a hop and a jump of the Walmart in Athens and Madisonville, a new Walmart in Sweetwater will be in the red its entire existence.

Funny, 5 years ago Kmart was talking about leaving Sweetwater due to low business.

The walmart is officially coming, the gas station is going to be with it but no tire and lube center. And yes the city and state not the mayor since he does have all power over the city has been studying for some time about expanding hwy 11 and hwy 68 to deal with the traffic. There is a high probability that a strip mall is coming with this walmart of some sort, you may ask how do I know this? Let's just say I know lots of land owners...wink wink. But I do understand the believing when you see it do to the poor shape of east tn's economy. So just be happy it's being considered because as history shows where a walmart comes in many other businesses follow.

Walmart is not always a happy guest in a community. What will Sweetwater have to give up to get it. They will have to widen roads, run sewage lines, spend thousands of dollars to make everything legal, etc... Walmart will ask for a tax abatement and pay NOTHING in local taxes in the short run. Most of the jobs will be at or below the poverty level (but they are jobs).
Soon, local hardware stores and pharmacies will not be able to compete with Walmart and their cheap imported goods. Sweetwater is an awesome town. Great people, decent schools, good churches, cute downtown, good service industries, etc...
I am not sure that Walmart offers Sweetwater any thing that is truly beneficial.

All the smaller older shops "downtown" will die quickly.

Traffic will indeed be a problem, as it already is in Sweetwater.

KMart will probably die in a couple of years, they have been struggling in that market.

Walmart jobs are low pay, low respect and no benefits.

Save-a-lot has prices almost as high or occasionally higher than Walmart and quality is much much lower.
I do not support Walmart taking over but at least don't give bad advice.

Also, perhaps someone should have paid attention to spelling lessons when they were in 2nd grade?

I think we can all weigh the advice to its fullest when it comes from someone who can not spell simple 5 letter words.

It does not mater if you can spell when the message is so clear. Walmart kills cities and towns with their Chinese made products and fruits and vegetables from Mexico and Venezuela. Soon the county and the world will be in crisis with the coming oil shortages. Walmart will not be shipping items cross country let alone world wide. You will end up with a wonderful skating rink and indoor go kart track when they go under. People in this country should not buy from them no mater what the price. If they ever expect their to be jobs or other local businesses in their towns you cannot support this type of corporate monopoly. Sam Walton based his business on products made in the U.S.A. I am sure Sam is ashamed of his legacy.

I am soon moving to Hohenwald,Tn. area when I can find a small farm to grow vegetables and free range animals. I grew up on small farm in Indiana, truck farming with a 5ac. garden, chickens and selling the products. I am retired now and need something constructive to occupy my time. Going to revert to my childhood as many men do when they get older. My family is originally from Kentucky and I miss the smell of the woods and all it offers. Want to participate in their Transitional city program. It will be the way of the future.
