She should be locked in a cage and given food and water once per week. No plumbing either, make her sit in own pee and poop.

Thank you WLTX for reporting this. It is a shame that officials wouldn't do "something" until the media was contacted. This woman and people responsible for this ordeal needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law. I only wished animal cruelty charges were a felony offense in all cases. I will remember this case next time I see an animal cruelty case, contact the media because I had the same situation - nothing would be done and the poor cow, after suffering a long death, finally died after four days in the hot July sun. When I called different places, they all basically said "can't do anything"... A shame, a horrible shame.

After seeing the pictures of the horses I have a hard time believing the horses are not in immediate danger.

i guess animals have to die before they are taken away. no animals should have to live under such conditions. even roosters were meant to roam and not be tied to a post!!!!

Food and water once per week is 8 times more than these animals received. There were numerous calls made with no response....Hay and water were just given on Sunday. She should be made to eat her own poop like the animals had too for 8 weeks...better yet, send her back to Mexico.

While I deplore animal cruelty, be careful about rallying to this cause. The radical feminist are linking animal cruelty to domestic abuse. The state of Maryland already does. It will be another excuse to use the husband as a punching bag and dare him to defend himself. Furthermore, it will give the woman an excuse to take the house, the car, and the children.

to richard - if the husband (or boyfriend) did not do anything about the situation, he is equally as guilty.

Furthermore, humans have a brain to use to defend themselves - animals are totally defenseless in a case like this one.

ART, please contact the SPCA about your neighbor's situation immediately.

People that abuse animals have a high propensity to abuse family members.

Mexico sounds good. But if yeah give a little water and food, just enough to keep her alive she will suffer longer.

I agree but maybe she needs to lay on the ground so weak that she can't get up and thrash her head on the ground until her eyes bulge and bleed like the young 5 month old colt did before he died.

Irene, you must be a little slow. Do you not know how to use the reply link to respond to comment? Furthermore, women have brains and the radical feminists say they keep going back to their abusers. You know it is always a mans fault.

As President of the Florence Area Humane Society in Florence, SC, I am quite concerned about the condition of the animals (all of them!) at this residence and the lack of action from local law enforcement. Two horses died (one of them slowly and painfully) at this location. And yet there is no immediate need to remove the animals?? That should have been enough to warrant emergency removal.
Were the horses examined by an equine vet? Did anyone look at the body condition of these horses? Was the hay in decent condition? Did anyone interview the property owner who witnessed the death of the horse and who contacted the media after no cooperation from law enforcement?
WLTX-TV 19 please go back out there and interview the property owner. Call SCARE (South Carolina Awareness and Rescue of Equines: www.scequinerescue.org .
Please please don't let these animal continue to suffer. Unfortunately, as a representative for animal welfare, we see this kind of thing everyday...let's step forward and save these!

The property has 75 animals -- two-thirds are ROOSTERS -- if not fighters, where are the hens and chicks? Tethered ROOSTERS --- how could a vet miss the signs of cockfighting? The search warrant turned up a small amount of marijuana... what about fighting tools such as gaffs, gloves, steroids, and bloody boards for a fighting arena?

It's a well-known fact that many Spanish citizens (and non-citizens) bring the "custom" or "tradition" of cockfighting with them when they come to the US. Cockfighting is illegal in every state (except two). The vet ought to take an experienced equine vet with him as well as a cruelty investigator on the next visit! And do it before the horses get so sick they can't walk.

In the meantime, I'll be looking for updates too.
