I live in Fall River. I lived here from July 1998-July 2003. Then moved back in February 2006. My dh works for the fire department as a paramedic. A lot of the people here are rude and the school system stinks. My daughter was in the school system in 2002-2003. She has been homeschooled since 2004. Most of the drivers are crazy. They don't know what a big red stop sign means. As a matter of fact my dh's ambulance was involved in an accident this morning due to some one, over by Charlton Hospital, failing to stop for a stop sign...
The citizens of Fall River need to have more respect for the city...

I agree with all the comments. And I would worry about the city council and the inept Mayor Lambert. A neighbor who's house is on S Watuppa(your secondary drinking water), last July was forced from his home, he has been unable to sell or even get to his house. In 2003 his home burned down, fire dept had trouble getting to his home, and he has a septic system that if not emptied could contaminate your drinking water, Yum ECOLI, City did nothing last year to help him, I talked to him and he said Head of Planning did everything to say it was not the Cities problem, City council played him, but the city did "he said" in 2003 after his house burned down name his road for his 3 neighbors to fix the problem(the road he says sits in Rhode Island)????? That makes sense land lock your resident who you need to keep the water safe and fix the others even though the road is in Rhode Island, if the city wanted to be slick they should of fixed everybody.

I think that Fall River has gone to hell. Honestly.. Look at all the state cops we have to have here now because our police arent doing anything about anything. They sit there, drink coffee... And watch as people are getting shot at. Its pretty pathetic to say the least.

My brother is running for city council and he;s going to try to do the best that he can to make Fall River a better city. A city where our kids can go and play and not have to worry about so much crime. Some entertainment or activities to do because why should we have to leave our town and do something in someone else's. More jobs. Cleaner city. I do agree that Fall River citizens have lost the respect for their city. we need to regain that respect back and help rebuild Fall River back up. Let's do it together. Vote Amaral November 6th

It seems as though most of you are just as ignorant and rude as the people you claim in Fall River. I have grown up in this city. Which is a city not a town, as one person posted. I was born and raised here, went through the school system, went away to college, and now I am back teaching in the school system. Yes Fall River needs work, but again its a city, we have alot of low income housing. Many of our parents have to worry about how to put food on the table, not to help their child with their homework. There are some great schools in our district, and many that need work. And if any of the ignorant people here knew anything, they would know that Fall River has met the AYP this year. Figure that one out. Especially for the people who live here, dont complain about the city when your not doing anything about it to make it better.

Fall River is an embarrassment to Massachusetts. Every summer a whole gaggle of Fall Riverites cross over the bridge into Somerset and go to Pierce Beach. And I have never seen that place as nasty as it is when they are here. There is trash everywhere! The children are horribly disrespectful to others and they adults are just as rude. I think to grow up in Fall River or live there automatically means you don't have class or manners. I know this doesn't apply to the entire Fall River population but from the percentage of those I've encountered it's safe to say that yes, Fall River stinks!

Ignorance is something that is becoming more and more prevelant in today's society. Why is it we can insult a city that has embraced the poor and immigrants throughout its history. Fall River today is facing an influx of non-Fall Riverites from some of our larger cities who price them out of the housing markets. Funding for these so called undisirables that do not go to Somerset, Swansea,Westport,Dartmouth,See konk etc..., because
you are communities that don't have your share of low-income housing(public housing).
If the rest of suburban MA did its part providing housing minimums and cost that goes with this, I think Fall River would be one safest best urban centers to live.
Ask any Fall Riverite that has lived here all their lives about the proud days of the past and our great history and the hard work that separates us from many and bonds us.
If there is any embarrassment it is the ignorance and arrogance of a people that do not respect their brothers.

Actually, the influx of residents don't come from other neighboring cities but from other countries. And these people would rather mooch off of our tax dollars through state assistance than learn how to cope with being a desirable citizen. NO littering, no drugs (which I am fully aware that many Americans do these things as well) and especially cut out the violence. I see this happen more in Fall River than any other community of lower income people.

Fall River is JUST like Lowell,Lawrence,Leominster,Lyn n,Fitchburg, Springfield and Worcester. Infested with MINORITY IMMIGRANTS that have no respect. I live in Westwood. We dont have the sh*t bag problems that Fallriver has. We take pride in owning our own homes here. We dont have a F***ed up Police force either! Just look at Officer Madonna.

I grew up in Somerset and always hated to travel through "The Rive". From what is was to what is has become today is terrible but we all knew this would happen. It prospered on Mill work which became cheaper for companies overseas. Now we see ppl from low-class Boston neighborhoods moving in and more trash moving to Somerset which will eventually turn into Fall River.

I moved across the river to Swansea from Fall River in 1969, just in time to start elementry school. Move to the 'burbs and life will be "better". Sure, many parts of Swansea and Somerset are beautiful but that doesn't hide the fact that these towns are merely extentions of Fall River. I left the entire area completely in 1983 and only visit occasionally now.

I always make it to Fall River on my visits back. The sandwiches on Bedford St. by either side of the ballfield are still incredible, and cheap! Lebanese meat and spinach pies in the flint. Fried clams at one of the Azorean clubs? Easier access to the beaches of Little Compton, Westport and beyond. While Fall River may have some crappy places to grab a beer and a shot, it still offers many good things to me. I am still tight with many people from Fall River and I'll tell ya this ... They all lack that elitist attitude the people across the river have. The ones who think they're smarter then everybody else and the ones who put everybody into "classes". You all make yourselves sound like you never spent enough time in class.

Maybe we are smarter than the dirt bags across the river. More educated, work harder, and don't like scumbags that like to take the easy way out. That's why the city is the way it is. You think it evolved like that just because? Stay in Florida where you belong. Class? Is that why you moved away? Tool.

Fall River, MA has become a Theme park for Drug users, welfare and gangs. I have a single family home a wife and three kind and. everyone in my household works and all of my kids either attend school or college. My home is surrounded by tenement houses. Not a single person within view of my home works. They all get up around 7 at night and party and do and sell drugs till early in the morning. why not come to Fall River we'll give you welfare, food stamps and a meth clinic to hold you over until your dope dealer gets up. I have been to the police with video of dealings from my security cameras and all I get is an excuse of why they can't do anything. In the past 4 years there have been three killings within a rocks throw of my house. when I lost my business I couldn't get a single bit of help from the government. But if I were to stick a needle in my arm well then I could get a free taxi ride to the clinic, get some meth food stamps and a government check to go buy drugs and beer with it. Yea it's a wonderful city.

I left Fall River in the summer of 1977 and have not looked back. It was an O.K. place to grow up in the '50's and '60's but it's gone downhill for decades. Problem with most folks in the industrial Northeast is that they don't know this is a huge country with lots of smaller towns and wide-open spaces. Get out of New England and you'll find that folks in the Midwest, South, and West are more open and friendly and that not everyone is Catholic or a Democrat. You don't HAVE to go to Florida to find a more relaxed place with a better
quality of life.
