This eyesore has been there long enough and that slimy lake is worthless. Time to tear it down and let things go back to nature. The fish can't swim upstream to lay eggs and there are some salamanders endangered by the lake. Time to get rid of it. I've been writing letters and talking to DNR guys and they're tired of it too. Too hard to police all the partying going on. Fish are more important than stupid drinking. I think this has a good chance of passing. Senator Manchin seems very interested in it since he needs points with his enviromentalists. Let's get this done for the fish!

Dumb-ass... People would lose their homes b/c of floods. They are not going to tear down Sutton dam b/c of fish and let people lose their homes.

The dam was put there for a reason, if we ever have a year like 1985 you will be glad the dam is there. Even then, it was almost not enough, as it got to almost the top. Ask the residents of Glenville how much fun flooding is. Ask people who lived here before the dam was built how it was, Dams are built to prevent flooding and the sutton dam has done a pretty good job.

whoever commented about removal of the dam needs to removed himself from braxton, as they did not make any sense whatsoever. remove the dam, what an idiot!

It's honestly hard to believe how STUPID somebody can be. It blows my mind that anybody would even think about entering a post like the first one above. His IQ must be single digit!

I'm not for tearing it down so much as making it bigger. If we built the dam all the way up to the top of the surrounding mountains, we could extend the lake so far back that they'd have to close Webster Springs.

I think we can all get on board with that program, right?

The top part of the dam could house luxury condos with boat docks and maybe a fancy restaurant and heliport. We could install hydroelectric for free power. It would bring much needed revenue to our county (and take it away from Webster Springs, those good for nothin' dorks).

So, let's stick it to Webster Springs and extend the dam up to the top of the mountains!

Dam removal would really be a benefit, not only for the fishes, but for DC metro tourists as well. The elk river corridor should be turned into a recreation area for equestrians, fly fishers, and cyclists.

For far too long the uncouth, obese, locals have marred the region with their obnoxious motorboats, cheap beer, and vile music. It's time for the area to move forward to a more eco-sensitive, inclusive, and diverse future. The lake has got to go if the next wave of retirees from Bethesda and Northern Virginia are to be accommodated. Seriously people, it's 2012 not 1812, get with the program!

How will dam removal harm Webster Springs? We need to keep sight of what's really important.

Me thinks dam is leaking and will soon crumble under the Webster Springs feces load from upstream.

Sadly, I don't think tearing down the damn will harm Webster Springs per se.
Let me tell you a story about those jerks, a few weeks ago me and my friend Deidre got in her Subaru and headed here from Bethesda to do some hiking and nature appreciation.
She's a lawyer and the co-founder of a feminist pottery collective based in Maryland. Wow! did the locals give us some looks! I guess they were offended by our Obama shirts and coexistence bumper stickers. Imagine how shocked those peasants would have been if her wife Cassie had been with us!

Hey Cyclist,

If you are from the DC metro area, why is it showing your location as Welch, WV? Don't you think it would show up as Virginia or Maryland? You are a trolling retard, that is just trying to be offensive to the people of this area, truth be known you are just as broke as anyone else. Your failed attempt to sound like an elitist is very Laughable. Welch, WV that should be the first clue you are full of Shiznit.

When does it ever flood any more? You guys are just ignorant in the ways of science and the future. The future is returning all rivers to their pristine condition. Like it was when the Indians were here. They didn't worry about flooding. You bunch of whiners.

Besides, I bet most of you are just worried your little party hole aka Bee Run will disappear and you won't be able to get your drunk on. And hit on teenage girls.

Fish are more important than drinking, you alcoholics.

DNR doing a study on this soon. Get ready to see that dam come down. It's about time!

This is the most ignorant post I have ever seen, you have no idea what you are talking about. First off, bee run is one of braxton county's main attractions. Second, it is illegal to drink on government property. Third, the dam and the lake is a major part of the dnr officers job. Fourth, it floods here all the time, they even send kids home from school because of it, so just imagine how bad it would be without the dam. Fifth, the lake is beautiful and great for family fun. And one last thing, they will not ever get rid of the dam or the lake, if anything they will make it bigger, so you just need to shut up and get over it! You are making a fool out of yourself!

Sorry you won't be able to hit on teenage girls no more and drink yourself silly in public.

Do some searches on Google. This is happening all over. People are realizing just how much harm has been done to the environment from ruining the rivers. Dams are starting to come down all over. It's going to happen. People just need to move away from the water if they don't want flooded. Besides, we haven't had a flood since 1985 almost 30 years. Most people who were in it would be dead now anyway.

The reason it doesn't flood anymore is because the Corp. built a damn to control the flooding. I think their plan work.

Wow you are so stupid... Why the hell would I want to hit on teenage girls, I am a girl dumb*ss...and i don't drink either. Like I said it is illegal to drink there anyways. Is that teenage girl and drinking comment the only come back you have? You have used it on every post you've made. And just how long do you think the majority of people live? There are several people that live here that was here in 1985. That's not really that long ago.... Do you not think before you speak, or are you too ignorant to think?

I'm not going to sit and argue with some drunk lesbian. You should be ashamed of yourself. That's another reason the whole lake needs shut down for good. Too much lesbianism and homosexuality. Why can't we just get back to the way things were before humans messed them up? Those fish didn't ask to be killed. Just do a google for tearing down dams. You'll see this is all coming. We're going to save the fish and stop the partying with the gays and lesbians. Have you ever seen a gay fish? NO! I'm writing more letters tomorrow and I hope all of you do the same. Start them all off with "Down With the Dam!" That's what I do. We'll make this happen!
