Hi,
I'm just curious, and trying to ask around.
I'm origionally from a very small, "trashy" town, with nothing but drama, trouble, and drugs there.
I'm currently living in BatonRouge, but excited to be moving back close to home.
The city just wasn't for me...

My fiance' and I are going look at a home tomorrow, and if we like it, we're going to start the rent this coming week.
{On Landry St., I think it's called...}
And I was just wondering how good of a town it really is b/c I don't know of anyone from there to ask personally...
I'm due to have my baby in March and I plan to stay wherever I move for atleast 5 years, and then permanently IF I like it.

I'm basically just asking how "safe" the town is..
For instance, is it a good place to raise a child?
Is there GOOD law enforcement,{unlike here in Melville} which is really important to me. Is there alot of trouble/drugs/disturbing the peace all over, break-ins, ect.
Are there good school's {I'm considering SacredHeart since I'm having a baby girl}...

I'm trying to get away from the bad environment here, and trying to find a positive town with safe neighborhoods and kind people.
I really don't want to bring my child into a negative kind of town...

Could someone please let me know a little about this town and it's reputation and maybe some of the things that go on there.
Good or bad...
I'd appreciate it, Thanks...

-Jessica.

pb got good police chief. good ppl and bad is every where but mostly good in port barre. schools need a lot of repairs and appears to have mold. got dollar stores and grocery stores, plenty beauty shops and barber shops. quiet neighborhoods and lots of churches. if u hang out with the right ppl u willb fine. stay away from melville and krotz springs. got 2 many whores in ks and flirty cops on pd. the firemen in ks sleeps with the local married women. the firechief is said to be gay and hits on the fireman. most the kids in school are white but the principle is black at ks elem. teachers are mostly black.melville has no school. melville has dumb ass fireman and looks like a dump. krotz springs looks like trash and has nothing to offer. so pb is ur best choice. good luch

Thanks for the advice. I know alot about Port barre.
And i know everything about living in Melville.
I've lived in melville {drugs} for 12 years, i lived in port barre {drugs} for 3 months and krotz springs {drama} for a year on and off.
I've currently been living in baton rouge {shootings} for 6 months,
None of those places are my choices to live in. Too much trouble and not enough proper law enforcement {except for pb, their cops aren't that bad}.
I'm looking to move a good bit away from those places...

I'm trying to find out information about the town of sunset.
But heads up to anyone who replies, I'm nor concerned with who's sleeping with who.
All i'm worried about is are there good schools, good law enforcement, and is there a heavy drug/violence rate there...

Look around Lawtell/Prairie Rhonde/Lewisburg area. I think unrealistic to think you will find a drug free city or town anywhere in this country. I do feel being raised in a country setting is better than in a city. Good luck

If you really care about good schools and quality of life, perhaps you would be better served looking in Lafayette parish.
I am not here to bash St Landry parish, but the truth is the truth.
St Landry parish's main income source is public assistance resulting in a very low tax base which places severe limitations on it's infastructure.
Lafayette parish is progressive while still maintaining its cultural integrity. Many from St Landry work in the Lafayette area.
Many many more from St Landry shop, dine, attend entertianment venues and seek medical care in Lafayette parish.
I know some will object to my comment and that is ok by me.
Whatever your choice is, at least do your own research and base your decision on which is best for you and your family.
