Who would in their right mind would want a 325.00 a month job. Just let the sheriff's office handle it.

You, obviously, have absolutely no clue how overextended the St Landry Sherriff's Office is right now. I live in Cankton and, on a good day, it will take 30 minutes to an hour for response.

The position was not designed for a full-time chief, who would do it for $325? They are nuts! But, we do need the help, and the patrol, and I pray that a qualified, concerned citizen who cares about the town in which he/she lives decides to add a few more chores to their list.

the reason it takes so long is that an officer has to be dispatche from the s.o. office once 911 tries to make contact with any of canktons 3 officers (1 the chief who is never there and is a crack head, the second the asst. chief who is paid 80.00 a month and only comes out on sundays for 1 hour for church , and the 3rd who is just like a gost.) nad then st landry s o is called. so try it again.....

Exactly...we need a new chief. I have no beef with SLSO and I know of the issues with our police chief.

According to Channel 3, KATC, they have a qualifier...10 oclock.

I have a question for you. Who do you call, 9-1-1 or the local P.D.? If you call 9-1-1, just ask them to send a Sheriff's Deputy and not try local authorities. This would probably cut down on the response time. They could call SLPSO instead of trying to call the others.

Currently we must call SLSO because no one has any idea of the whereabouts of our curretn chief. By her own admission, the Mayor of Cankton has not heard from, or spoken to the crrent chief since 2005. Its a severe problem, but I am glad that Mr. Treadway has decided to step up and assume the responsiblities willfully neglected by our current chief.

As far as response time...because Cankton has its own police force (on paper, if nothing else) SLSO must frist allow them to respond then defer back to SLSO if no response.

Because of his lack of professionalism and personal issues, the current chief has severed all professional relationships with SLSO and the surrounding communities. It is because of his childish BS that we, the residents of Cankton, suffer. All I can say is GO HEATH!!!!

Well, low and behold, I see that Phillip Royer has refused to break with tradition and has decided to run again. Explain to me the difference between Phillip and Danny Miller??? They are each alcoholics, and both have held the office of Chief and done nothing with it. In fact, for the last election, when I asked Phillip what he wanted to do with the office if he won, he answered "Nothing, but collect a check".

Looking at our two candidates, and knowing that Heath is fully certified and qualified in police work, and ESPECIALLY knowing the person Royer is, Heath definately has my vote.

do the math. Phillip was chief something like 12 years ago and did nothing. Now hes 12 years older and still is not going to do anything. What really pissed me off about the last election was when he told the Daily World that Donald Menard was fully backing him and we all knew damned well that Donald was pushing for Danny. I didn't vote for Heath in the last election. I made a bad choice and voted for Danny. I am correcting that decision this time GO TREADWAY!

Just stopping by to agree, with the above post. Heath is P.O.S.T. Certified and is for the community. I hope that the last minute entry by Phillip does not stop the village of Cankton from getting a great man for the job. Treadway all the way.

Sitting at one of my local haunts I was witness to a conversation between Phillip and another gentleman sitting at the bar. A direct quote from Phillip:

I just wanna sit on my ass and collect a check. I will be happy knowing that Don and Susan Menard and having to deal with me being chief. Hell, they've paid the other guy (Danny Miller) the same check for four years and he did nothing. Im gonna do the same.

I don't know Treadway personally, but he is a full time officer, and that shows me that hes already knowing what to do. I guess you know who has my vote.

Just want to remind the people of Cankton that Heath Treadway is POST certified, radar certified, BAC certified ( Breath Analyzer ) he is from Village for the Village. It is time Cankton had an officer that is qualified and wants to help the Village of Cankton.

I think if Cankton wants a working Chief, the town needs to step up and advance the pay to $1200 a month. Money talks and its time for our civil servants that protect us 24/7 are compensated. Better yet give them $1200 a month and health insurance. That should solve the problem!! Thank you.

Oh, by the way I dont live in Cankton, but as a law enforcment officer I know the toll that it takes on our men and women in this parish and they need to be treated fairly because this is an honorable ossupation and if everyone could do it, they would, but not everyone can. Good Luck Heath, and I look forward to seeing you in the future. If you need call the SO.

Just want to remind everybody to look hard at Heath and his qualifications, It is time for Cankton to have a Chief for the people, he is accessible, and will be around when needed and if he can not be around he has the resources and support around him to get the job done. We may be a village but we are CANKTON LOUISIANA a quiets little place to relax and feel safe with HEATH we will continue to have a quiet safe community
Vote Heath Treadway for a positive police department.
