For years I have heard so many teachers say that they could make more working for a corporation; they may find out if this is true if legislation goes through.

Cutting costs is VERY important, but not at the expense of a quality education. Now more than ever it is important for students to get a top rate education in order to compete on a global level. Need to take "Marketing" out and all the silly extras and get back to core lessons.

Can anyone cite one instance where "For Profit" was less expensive with the same quality? Anyone? Anyone?

Remember we are talking about your kids, grandkids...

I probably cant cite any source that says a private school is cheaper, but the quality is by far superior. Lets see, the democrats and liberal teachers unions have had control of the detroit public school system for almost 60 years, thrown all kinds of money at the system..not working too good for them. REcently the Atlanta public school system came under investigation because the teachers were cheating for the students to raise their proficiency scores. I'm not talking a couple teachers, I'm talking a majority of them, lead by the head honcho who knew it was going on and basically threatened teachers to do it. Don't think we see too many columbines at private schools. In fact I don't think there were too many instances of shootings prior to the liberals taking over the school boards and teachers unions and putting their liberal agenda in the classroom. I also don't think you'll have plays like "the vagina monologues" at private schools. I also don't think that any private schools will take student money to show pornographic videos on how to have "safe" gay sex, like texas A&M.

It will not be cheaper, but the quality will NOT be there.

In order for "For Profit" to make huge profits, education will NO LONGER be Free. Ever thought about that?

Just read an article about a woman who, with the help of vouchers, was able to send her children to a Catholic school. This is redistribution of taxpayer dollars from taxpayers to the For Profit (1%).

Why would you need the voucher system? Why hasn't a study of the Catholic School system been done and immidtate that in public schools.

Allow me to enlighten you. Most families CANNOT afford to send their kids to private schools; therefore, smaller teacher to student ratios in private schools. More of the teacher's attention given to each child.

The voucher program will move taxpayer dollars into the "For Profit" arena and in the end you will still have OVER CROWDING, but less money going to the education of your children. Then you will be asked to help pay.

Seems like to me, in the tech world, you would take the money you would be giving to "high profits" and invest in computers/software/high speed internet and give the kids the best chance to survive and thrive in the future.

Is it only me that sees the voucher plan as a way for politicians to buy favor in the For Profit world? This will HURT your kids in the future. Think about it! You owe it to the kids to stand up for what is right for their future!!!!

It's funny how people are crying about eduction for our youth but how did you vote are did you even vote so many people were so quick to say we love the job our governor is doing and voted him in office again just remember that he is one of the picks for vice president on the republican card I find it sointeresting many people have opinions about the president but are relatively silent about the governor and his implementation of BIG interference with respect to health care, education, and employee retirement. What do these fat cats care, they have lifetime pensions and health care plans for life. But that's what we voted for so deal with it don't complain

@ Teacher - I agree. Bobby Jindal seems to have all the security he is taking away from others.

I still say the problem will NOT be resolved in changing President, but rather Congress and on the State level.

If any healthcare and retirements benefits should be taken away, it should be in the Legislature and Congress. Keep in mind, these are "temporary" jobs. How many temp jobs that you know of give out so many cheap/free benefits. If Wallstreet wants to buy Congress, let's charge them the high price available (through taxes).

Taxpayers need to united and make meaningful changes now!

I do agree we need to make changes but if we keep voting the same people in office this is the results we will keep getting

All the dummies keep voting along party lines. The party controls the candidates. So long as people continue to think democrat vs republican, it will never change.

Grits n Gravy you are correct.

The change to vouchers in education will only help a few. Waste of money. And as most have said, "will damage the public education system". The only thing that will come from this is For Profit will try to take over the system and make it worse at the taxpayers' expense.

Basic studies thru eight grade; build foundation. Then aptitude test given. Start training for the future using all options available (including computers, software and internet). This is our kids future. If the child's future is in medicine, then that is where their studies will be directed. If in the trades (carpentry, plumbers...) that will be their path. Motivating the students with something they are interested in is the way to go. You will see fewer drop outs. And the ones dropping out will have at least some training to find a job as helpers. In the last few years we have seen that a college education does not mean a lifetime of success and security. A happy/successful person follows their passion.

What is the old saying, "Education builds confidence".

I agree with you in many ways.

One benefit of privatization would be that the Department of Education would not dictate curriculum. That, IMHO, is one of the largest boils on the back of our nation.

Very interesting. When you don' read the fine print, you are fooled into doing something you did not intend on doing. It may even hurt someone you love.

Read for yourself.

All I have to do is look around and see that ALL For Profit Corporate level businesses have huge profits and NO accountability.

When your kids are failing and you have to join a class action law suit to try and get something done (most of the settlement will go to the lawyers and costs of the suit), you will think, "I could have spoken up against the polictician, Bobby Jindal. What was I thinking?

Again, how is turning over the education system to WallStreet going to improve your kids' grade point average?

One more thing.

Just look at healthcare.

Top management takes home millions in compensation and you have to fight to get to go to the doctor of your choice, get lab tests and Rx covered not to mention hospital bills paid.

This is For Profit in action.

Is this what you want for education too?
Is this what you want for Medicare and SS?

Student Teacher Fired After Comments

Why would they fire hime for telling the truth in search of help to resolve a major issue?

I still feel that if by the 9th grade apitude tests were given and students began training in their life's work, they would have more interest in classwork and would be ready to go to work after graduation.

With the high cost of higher education and still not guaranteed a job, it would make sense to do everything possible to get HS graduates ready for the workforce.

For those who want to fight, bring back reform schools. Give them a taste of prison early on. I bet it would be the most effective deterrent while still getting their education!
