After the driver said he had dealt with this for 10 years he must have really been fed up with this passenger. To lose your temper and assault someone indicates extreme anger which of course is a crime. I hope he is forced into retirement from his current employers and hopefully that will give him the "adjustment" he needs to re-think his actions before he becomes violent and good luck with that!!

Drivers have more pressure at this job than anyone can imagine. Clients who ride these buses can be extremely rude, disruptive, phyisically abusive, and insulting. In my daily activities, I have come across so may people who have no patience what so ever. So what makes anyone think that they would have managed to keep control of themselves. Some people can't even drive down the road on a daily basis without verbally insulting someone.(You know who you are.) It does not make this right but you can not judge someone you dont know anything about. Don't think for a second that senior citizens or any other people that ride paratransit or fixed route buses cant be out of control either. Remember some of these clients have mental and/or emotional issues too. Anybody recall the CAT driver several years ago, that was almost put in a hospital by an upset rider about an issue that he was not even responsible for?

No doubt some of the passengers have mental and/or emotional issues. My point was that the driver should not have assaulted the passenger no matter how much she was aggravating him. Assault is a crime. A passenger that is extremely rude, disruptive or insulting creates a hostile environment on the bus which is counter productive to safely transporting the passengers to their destinations. They should receive warnings, with the treat of their transportation privelidges revoked if they don't behave. Physically abusive passengers should have their photo put on the internet like the driver did AND they should lose their riding privelidges. You wrote that the drivers endure alot of pressure from this job. I hope the company you work for offers classes/instruction on how to deal with difficult people and people who have mental/emotional issues. I agree with you that senior citizens can be rude and out of control. I am a retired LVMPD 911 Specialist and I know the feeling of verbal abuse from all ages and how difficult it can be to not allow it to affect you. Hang in there.

There is no excuse for that drivers actions, but i think you have to look deeper into the job and see the pressure put on the driver by FRIST TRANSIT AND RTC.

There are a lot of incredibly stupid people in this town that piss me off on a constant basis. That does not give me authority to beat them up. Even tho they are in desperate need and fully deserving of an ass-whooping, it am not allowed to do it.

This guy need the full measure of the law.
