What gets me is that when they bought the premises they didn't realise that it was only just over half the sq. feet claimed. Obviously that book of theirs, that tells them everything they need to know for living, doesn't include property purchases! It does show however, that those involved in selling property in the USA are every bit as economical with the truth as they are on my side of the pond.

The size of the building has nothing to do with the original mortgage.
Now, suppose the building was the specified square footage? Now what?
And it is fairly ridiculous to buy something for millions, before getting it checked out first.
Even a repo, less extreme circumstances, one does a walk through before buying.
Plus UPC has some pretty shady characters leading it.

Every business survival depends on customers buying their goods and/or services, and that the total amount they pay will, in the long run, always be more than are/were the total costs of operating that business, including rents and/or mortgages.
..... Clergy have a vested interest in making their "flock" sin as much as possible, because sinners pay usually more than non-sinners in the hope of bribing God to forgive them their past, current and future sins.
..... Maybe the members of that church have not been sinning enough?
